International Coffee Day ☕️: Where we are as 🇺🇬 and where we want to go.
📢The highlight: Uganda exports 8.1 million 60-kilogram bags of coffee achieving 1.6% growth in quantity.
Coffee exports for 12 months (September 2025–August 2026) totaled 8.1 million 60kg bags worth US$ 2.1 billion (UGX 7.6 Trillion) compared to 7.9 million 60kg bags worth US$ 2.2 billion (UGX 8.1 trillion) in the previous year (September 2024–August 2025). This represents an increase of 1.6% in quantity and a decrease of 5.2% in value.

❇️ Global production and consumption
As revealed by International Coffee Organization (ICO) on September 10, 2026 Coffee production reached a record peak by the end of 2025/26, with surplus.
Global coffee production rose by 4.4% year-on-year to a record 183.6 million bags.
A slight decline in consumption by 0.9% year-on-year to 180.6 million bags, left the global coffee market in a 3 million bag surplus, the first surplus in five years.
❇️ Uganda rising
Uganda continues to export more and more Coffee, attracting more buyers and penetrating new markets.
This is reflected in the growth registered in each financial year.
In the 2025/26 financial year, Uganda exported 8.3 million 60-kilogram bags of coffee, fueled by a strong surge in domestic coffee production.
This volume reflects a 7.7% increase compared to the 7.7 million bags exported in the previous financial year.
In terms of export earnings, Ugandan Coffee fetched US$ 2.18 billion (approximately UGX 7.9 trillion) for the country.
The national target for Coffee production is 20 million 60-kilogram bags per year.
The Government of Uganda continues to implement various interventions to enable the country's private sector perform af its best. These include support for mechanization, irrigation, quality seedlings, quality assurance, marketing and policy.

Through Spotlight Initiative 2.0, @UNDP is supporting @MoLGUganda to strengthen community awareness and access to justice through community barazas.
In Malaba Municipality, the baraza brought community members and duty bearers together to discuss GBV prevention and response, SRHR, Trafficking in Persons (TIP), and the role of Local Council I & II Courts. ⚖️
The baraza strengthened community understanding of appropriate reporting and referral mechanisms, as well as where to access justice, protection and other support services.

@UCSATP continues training District Beneficial Insects Value Chain Focal Persons and Entomologists at NARL, Kawanda, strengthening technical and practical skills in apiculture and black soldier fly (BSF) farming.
Sessions are focusing on bee establishment inspection, product standardisation, safety and phytosanitary measures, hive products, processing and api-preneurship, as well as bee pathology, toxicology and pest management.
Through @UCSATP, @MAAIF_Uganda is promoting apiculture and BSF farming to enhance food security and create alternative income opportunities for farmers. Bees support pollination, while BSF convert organic waste into valuable, high-protein feed—creating sustainable opportunities for farmers and communities.

The pilot facility will feature solar-powered offices, waste management systems, a community shade facility, gender-responsive biodigester sanitation facilities, a café and craft shop, and an observation tower.
The investment will strengthen community ownership, generate conservation revenue and expand livelihood opportunities for women and young people, while supporting the protection of Mabamba Bay Wetland. 🇺🇬🌿

Training of Trainers for District Beneficial Insects Value Chain Focal Persons is underway at the National Agricultural Research Laboratories (NARL), Kawanda.
The training aims to equip district focal persons with knowledge and practical skills in Climate Smart Agricultural Technologies and Innovative Management Practices (CSA-TIMPs) for apiary and Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming.
In his remarks, the Beneficial Insects Value chain lead Mr. Mugonza said the capacity building will strengthen extension support and promote climate-smart, innovative and sustainable beneficial insects value chains at district level.
