@BrewCityChaser @nascom1@NASANewHorizons@NewHorizons2015 As I recall from talking to them, it was known pretty early on after MU69's discovery that the encounter would be 2019 Jan 1. The time/location uncertainties -- while still important to resolve to get useful data -- were lower than that.
@Alex_Parker The LORRI image reminded me of thermal/FLIR images initially (i.e. glowing/emissive). Just a consequence of low phase angle, low lighting, low (compared to future pics') resolution? Or something else?
