VIDEO | Chandigarh: Farmer leader Sarwan Pandher on meeting with Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian says, "Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian and the entire bureaucracy were present. Our meeting lasted around three hours. The main points that emerged from the meeting were that we discussed all issues in detail, particularly all 23 points, and put forward our views with full reasoning. They could not reject any of our arguments by saying that our point was not valid. As far as the procurement of five crops is concerned, they said they would consider basmati. Regarding the remaining crops, they said Punjab does not have the funds, but if we get the CCL limit, we can also take this forward. That was one of their points. On loan waiver, they said they do not have enough money for such a large loan waiver."

#WATCH | Amritsar, Punjab | On protest outside Punjab cabinet minister Harbhajan Singh ETO's residence, Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandhair says, "We had announced that starting September 14, the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha would hold a five-day protest... and this is the first phase of the protest. Since the government is not listening, we have scheduled a KMM meeting on September 16 to demand an extension of the protest. Our main demands are that the Bhagwant Mann government had earlier claimed on major news channels that if farmers brought their tractors and trolleys to the mandis, opened their gunny bags, and brought their produce, they would guarantee procurement. Meanwhile, Punjab's groundwater levels are declining. The central government procures wheat and paddy. Punjab also has a role in sugarcane procurement. We say that if the Bhagwant Mann government is truly committed to Punjab and farmers, then it should focus on crops that require less water, such as basmati, potatoes, moong, and maize..."

VIDEO | Amritsar, Punjab: Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher says, "At this time, the Centre has announced an increase in the MSP for paddy and other crops for the coming season, but in my opinion, this increase is far too low. The rise in MSP for paddy is very small. If we talk about Punjab, the cost of agricultural inputs has increased significantly. Fertilizer prices alone have gone up by 6–12 per cent this year. If you look at pesticides, the increase is around 6–15 per cent. Diesel prices have also risen by 3–5 per cent. So, our cultivation costs this year are much higher. Compared to that, the increase announced by the government for these crops is very low."
