Brazil's Indigenous communities are some of the worlds original environmental defenders, protecting the Amazon & nature across Brazil.
Pleased to meet @GuajajaraSonia, 🇧🇷Minister of Indigenous Peoples, to discuss crucial role they play in nature conservation & threats they face.
Land is life. Yet billions across 🌍 are facing food insecurity & crippling droughts. We need a global push to restore degraded lands for all.
This #DesertificationAndDroughtDay I stand #United4Land with @UNCCD & partners.
Our Land. Our Future. We are #Generation Restoration.
The links between climate change, environmental degradation, peace & security have never been clearer.
Unless we act, climate change will accelerate conflict even further.
At #SthlmForum with @SIPRIorg's Dan Smith, discussed how a healthy environment is the foundation to peace.
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me," Matthew 25:35-36.
Attended Sunday service at ACK St. Joseph Kanyariri Church in Kiambu County and later visited flood victims from the area.
We are in the thick of an unprecedented episode of flooding just months after the worst drought in 40 years.
Our hearts go out to Kenyans who have lost their loved ones as well as the survivors who are battling various challenges including displacement and loss of property.
Today, together with my colleague CS @WaziriBore and Hon. Wamacukuru, MP for Kabete, I visited and witnessed the devastating impact of the floods on the people of Kanyariri village, Gitaru Ward, Kabete Constituency in Kiambu County.
We are doing the best through the ongoing Government emergency response measures to alleviate the pain and suffering of affected Kenyans.
Dear Country men and women, nature-based solutions, including our ecosystems restoration plan, remain our best bet in the wake of the worst manifestation of the climate change crisis in our country.
As we look forward to the subsiding of the ongoing heavy rains, we will be appealing that we have all hands on deck in reclaiming our degraded forests, wetlands, water towers and all our riparian zones by planting and nurturing trees in every available space.
If every Kenyan child planted at least 10 trees and every adult plants at least 50 trees, it will be a gesture of honoring our departed brothers and sisters while ensuring that we mitigate against future flood and drought calamities.

The catastrophic floods that have visited doom and gloom on our country should be a wake up call to all of us Kenyans to ensure that the climate change induced cycle of extreme weather events that include droughts do not keep reoccurring by accelerating restoration of our degraded ecosystems.
As torrential rainfall subside in coming days, we will roll out a revamped ecosystems restoration strategy to be spearheaded by Cabinet Secretaries as part of sustained Govt efforts to achieve the 15bn trees national target by the year 2032.
Joined members of the Ngong Forest, Bomas Block Community Forest Association (CFA) and @KeForestService staff for a tree growing exercise Tuesday afternoon.

Hosted a Sierra Leone Government and @WorldBank delegation led by H.E Tamba John Sylvernus Lamani, Minister for Local Government and Community Affairs to discuss Kenya's broad climate action agenda that includes accelerated restoration of degraded landscapes and ecosystems including the 15Bn National Tree Growing Programme, and the efforts to transition the country's linear waste management model into circular economy as a benchmark.
The delegation that includes H.E @IsataMahoi (Gender and Children Affairs Minister) is in the country to particularly study Kenya's pioneering of the WB led Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program for implementation in Sierra Leone.
