@Aliciawarford02 I agree Alicia! While we have so much opportunity to hear music online, there is nothing better than live music. Not only is it enjoyable to listen to, but it also creates core memories for both the audience members and the artist. #F22POPMUS
@EmilyBi29285503 I agree Emily! Today's youth get so excited over live concerts/music. Just think about Taylor Swift and her new tour announcement. It has been shared to millions online. My friends and I would much rather listen to her new music live. #F22POPMUS
Streaming platforms provide easy access to all music. Today's pop fans do listen to a lot of music through these platforms. However, I still disagree with Wald's statement. Live music is more fun and enjoyable. Who doesn't love a good concert? #F22POPMUS
@_Adam_Keating_ I am a supporter of seeing the value in all music. However, in the case of "clean teen", I think the covers created are cultural theft. The originals are much more creative and enjoyable to listen to. Although I do agree it was created to target a certain audience. #F22POPMUS
@knoseworthy13 I agree. Listening to the song "Tutti Frutti" from the course notes, for example, you can clearly see a difference in creativity and passion from the original to "clean teen" version. Pat Boone's voice was purely monotone in his cover. #F22POPMUS
I agree that the white middle class created an era of "schlock" music. The music is less interesting, creative, and enjoyable compared to the originals. Even the tone of voice in original versions are more passionate and upbeat. #F22POPMUS
Ray Charles uses a breaking voice in "I've got a Woman" to passionately convey the emotion he feels toward the woman. It signifies that he has strong feelings for her. His breaking voice adds an emotional layer to the song. #F22POPMUS
@zoemcdonald01 Yes! If the lyrics were sang without passion and strength, listeners would not connect to the song on the same level. When listening to his song, it is easy to connect to the emotion he feels toward the woman. #F22POPMUS
@KylieFaith21 I also agree. The song would certainly not convey Ray Charles' emotion the same if his voice was not breaking. His passion shines through in the song with the strength of the vocals. #F22POPMUS
@Lisa_mus2011 One of the largest benefits of technology today is accessibility. I've never heard of the streaming service vividseats. Thank you for mentioning this! Many people cannot attend concerts because of expense etc. This platform opens a musical door for many people! #F22POPMUS
@taylorbartlett0 I agree. It truly is a societal norm to own all the latest technologies. Also, platforms such as Spotify cannot be accessed without this technology. This disadvantages those who cannot afford these luxuries because music is one of the most beautiful parts of life! #F22POPMUS
To an extent, I think people purchase technology such as AirPods or streaming platform accounts (Apple Music/Spotify) because it is today's societal norm. However, it does broaden our musical knowledge because music today is easier to access than in the past. #F22POPMUS
Expensive cars, jewelry, and fancy clothing, are โfalse needsโ that have been reinforced by popular music. However, todayโs music is not โdumbed-down.' Artists simply have a different style of writing targeting people who relate. All music holds meaning. #S22POPMUS
@NazaahaAzam I do agree that the music industry has perceived artists in a particular way. It is possible that artists may feel limited in what they can express through their music. Maybe music seems simple because the artists cannot truly connect themselves. #S22POPMUS
@MeganChippett04 I definitely agree that music and media has created an unrealistic idea of beauty. However, there are also artists who use their platforms to help change this standard. Ex: Lizzo has opened up about her struggles with body image and has pushed for body positivity! #S22POPMUS
