@dr_s_bertrand @DuaxOlivia I agree! Biases are not something you can just make disappear, we have to be actively making sure we check them and don’t act or speak on them!
A4: I plan on incorporating lessons into my classes similar to the one we had today! I think even if it’s not relevant to other class material, middle schoolers need to hear these things since they are at such an impressionable age! #TCHEdbirds
@DCMB46413300 This is such a great point. I feel like oftentimes we assume stereotypes have to be about race or gender, but really they can be about where you live or go to school too! I’m sorry to hear about this experience.
A3: Stereotypes and biases towards one or multiple students can make them feel lesser than their classmates. This will stop students from participating because they will be afraid to be wrong or ask questions - Which is how you learn! #TCHEdbirds
@Bailee_k_Flana@ms_woodman I totally agree! I used to get in trouble all of the time for wearing spaghetti straps to school! I don’t even understand how someone’s shoulders can be ‘inappropriate’😂
A2: I have experienced stereotyping in the golf community since it is often dominated by men. I’ve had men make comments or ask if I’m sure I want to play from the more difficult tees. However I know if I was a guy my age, those comments probably wouldn’t be made. #TCHEdbirds
