@jdvick23 @psyc220 #CD7 @psyc220 Your capstone sounds wonderful, if you need any help finding more local community programs in Hburg then please let me know through class or dm! I would love to help your project in anyway
@rileymurphyyy12 @psyc220 #CD7 @psyc220 I love your goals! Children are unfortunately one of the least protected groups in the world. It's our job as adults to support them as much as we can
I've had meetings during 1st Gen Week on the effect of JMU on the local immigrant children, and how we can make a plan to help those first-gen kids with better funding to get into their local college.
@psyc220 #CD7 Career-wise, a holistic therapist, but in general just I want to be someone who inspires + evokes joy in others. Be someone who can be a supportive role in the community, especially for children. People who are like this already have a strong core
I have worked directly w/ children (outside of Hburg) and now work at a city level with Hburg. I get to help with the execution of projects to provide activities and support for the citizens of the city, but I hope to be more hands-on in the development of plans.
@rachnapatelll @psyc220 #CD6 @psyc220 The hate crimes committed against Asian civilians were disgusting. Too many people allowed the oppression to happen because they wanted someone to blame for their own irresponsibility, it was so shameful
@ElliePsyc220 @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD6 This is a great point. I work with people who are disabled and can't make enough of government help, so even if they are retired and ill, they need to work a job to make their hospital bills.
#CD6 an axis of oppression is race and nationality in immigration. Many POC immigrants face way more backlash, discrimination, and hate when coming to the states. Yet, White immigrants won't even be questioned on their citizen status.

#CM5b @psyc220 Jennifer Lynn Lewis is on the ballot for district 6 and has spent the past decade working in the mental health field. She's mentioned she wants to work more with families in need. Hopefully, she can help reduce physical barriers in our community.
@mdangelo529 @psyc220 #CD5a @psyc220 I didn't even realize that there weren't any ramps in certain buildings. Just another reminder to be more aware of what's inclusive and what's not. There definitely needs to be more accessible entrances/pathways at JMU
@frankmrdukes @psyc220 #CD5b @psyc220 I want more politicians to have a better understanding of science/biology like Mizeur. Especially after seeing the effects that barrier laws on people w/ disabilities from 2020-22 due to Covid (i.e., reducing masks were harmful to ppl that are immunocompromised)
#CD5a @psyc220 I don't have a physical example, but I know a few people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). One barrier that we as Allistics do is make up "hidden meanings" behind their words that aren't there. Many of my friends with ASD get frustrated because they
are speaking clearly and deliberately, yet Allistic people still purposely misunderstand them for their own personal reflection on emotions and intentions. As Allistic people, I've noticed when I've done this too, we aren't literal, so we make our communication a barrier because
@MegCassidy26 @psyc220 #CD4 @psyc220 love how you put it because I'm tired of the negative stigma that feminists "don't care about men."🙄 Feminism is for everyone. no matter the identity
@bripsyc220 @psyc220 #CD4 @psyc220 Great point! Feminism has been a great support in many people's lives whether they realized it or not. Without the Suffrage movement first, there is a slim chance the U.S. would've seen the Civil Rights Act or the legalization of same-sex marriage.
#CD4 @psyc220 as stated in CM ch. 4, homophobia stems from sexism to maintain gender roles. This leads to restraints on gender + sexual orientations. Every individual has a unique blend of identities, but if not for feminism then these can't be freely expressed.
@nelltuckk @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD3a I love this response. As children we are condition not to talk about race, so now people are uncomfortable talking about it as adults. Conversations about race + racism need to be talked about at such younger ages so there isn't tension created.
