I’m glad social movements, such as #BlackLivesMatter have become popular in recent years. This was a great topic to cover in this course because as many people as possible should learn about them so they can hopefully gain more awareness and participants! #gs1000w2081
@HilaryHennesse4 I’m glad this social movement is know worldwide since it is so important for people to learn about equality! Hopefully it will gain even more attention than it already has! #gs1000w2081
I enjoyed this TED Talk as it shows how the issues women face are not their fault. Men must be familiar with the issues as well so problems can be solved and avoided. Minority groups are blamed for issues when others do not try to understand. https://t.co/JmaDCQqZQq #gs1000w2081
@jennyford25 I agree! People will tease or look down upon those who do not have high paying jobs, yet those people are using those services. If there were no employees working said jobs, those who are judging would not have access to those services! #gs1000w2081
I agree with the point made in this video about how there are ways men can look after children. If a male and a female choose to have children, the male should also help in caring for them. The job should not be solely for the mother! #gs1000w2081 https://t.co/QsQ4VSssJq
@BreeCourtney4 I agree! Everyone has different abilities, strengths, and lives! It does not make one person or job inferior to another, and people should not be judged for their career path, or with whatever they choose to do! #gs1000w2081
Many people think that everyone is in control of their health and the factors that impact it. Although, not everyone has access to resources, or is in control of aspects of their life. This list sounds ridiculous, but shows what some think. #gs1000w2081 https://t.co/aZVoRZ8ECf
Women’s health is not valued the same as others. Women should not have to worry about “coming across as melodramatic” because pain is pain. No one else can possibly know what another is feeling, or say that what they are feeling is not real. #gs1000w2081 https://t.co/nAFuYM3I9G
@emmacad00 I agree! If a woman is not feeling well, or is moody, it is automatically said to be because of her period. They are expected to get over it, when it could be something very serious. Periods are also extremely painful and difficult for some as well! #gs1000w2081
It’s crazy that women are not taken seriously when it comes to their health, even emergencies. Women know if something does not feel right regarding their bodies just as much as anyone else. They are neglected as if they do not matter and do not know how they feel. #gs1000w2081
Cameron Russell’s TED Talk can change people’s perspectives on the topic of modelling. People often think if they looked like a model they would be satisfied and confident in their body, but Russell shows that this is not true, speaking from personal experience. #gs100w2081
@celinedelaneyy Definitely! Children need to be taught that the colour of one’s skin does not make them inferior to anyone else. If a child grows up being taught that some races are superior to others, they will think that since their guardian is saying this, it must be true! #gs1000w2081
The comic “I’m Not Racist, But” is straight to the point, while having a powerful meaning. It perfectly summarizes how people try to justify their racist words, since some people believe as long as they start a sentence with this phrase, it is okay, when it is not! #gs1000w2081
@djclarke230 Zayid definitely views life with a very positive perspective, which is amazing! I think others can watch her and use her confidence as motivation to go after their own goals! Zayid is very inspiring! #gs1000w81
The TED Talk by Maysoon Zayid shows that people with disabilities should not be underestimed. Disabled individuals are more capable than people typically expect, and Zayid is a great role model for anyone with a disability who is trying to accomplish their goals! #gs1000w2081
@BreeCourtney4 @atrimm3 It’s amazing that the biggest social media app has included the option for people to say the gender they identify with, rather than being restricted to male, or female, if they do not identify as either. Other social media apps should definitely have this option too! #gs1000w2081
Even though there have been advances in society, more changes need to be made. It is shocking homophobia still exists and some people care so much about who others love, when it has nothing to do with them. Why should only heterosexual people get to love? #gs1000w2081
@blakemi49185204 It is nice to hear this since most stores still have a “women’s section” and a “men’s section”. People should be able to shop for, and buy whatever they please, without judgement, children included! #gs100w2081
The story about X shows that children should be given the opportunity to decide what they like for themselves so they are not pressured into the “norms” of their gender. Gender roles are often forced onto people at a young age, even as newborns, but should not be. #gs1000w2081
