As a longtime leader of @txmlpc, I'm very excited about Texas's newest medical-legal partnership. Our early research suggests #mlp could be a critical tool for reducing recidivism & more. This project is a win for Texans -- incarcerated, med/law student, & in our communities.
@txmlpc The ever-inspring Bethany Hamilton @glowbug28 delivered a clarion call that #MLP be understood as not just to increasing access to justice #A2J, but achieving justice. #TxMLPC24
After a brief overview of #MLP delivered by me, Stephanie Sommerlatte led the audience through an environmental scan. @txmlpc wants to know who our Texas practitioners are! #TxMLPC24
This weekend, @NPR published a months-long investigation into a simple question:
Why are Republicans abandoning one of the best tools the government has to find voter fraud?
We uncovered a complex far right pressure campaign, and an election denial blueprint for 2024...
In response to the unprecedented nature of #COVID19, the U.S. government declared numerous types of emergencies, Congress enacted several pieces of legislation, and various executive actions were taken. Track these flexibilities and their end dates. https://t.co/OFINVvjJ0m
Recording and slides from @theNAMedicine webinar on the history and systems impact of oppression, racism, and widening racial health disparities in light of current social and political contexts: https://t.co/mvwlKR9Sqd #PromoteHealthEquity
@RobynMPowell ....making systems navigation very difficult. (Not sure why my thought cut off, but I'll add another: Our legal conceptualization of disability is seldom inclusive of the socioeconomic nature of ability.)
At #StateofReform and excited to hear @anthonyhaley: Civil Legal services via medical-legal partnerships like the one @austinpcc are critical to meeting the health needs of a community, including in the face of the end of #Medicaid continuous enrollment. #MLP
Loving hearing the history and impetus for legal services lifted up! Lawyers and public health professionals and other social care providers were redressing #SDoH long before #healthcare coined a term and asked to be paid to start screening. #MLP
Care coordination doesn't address social determinants. You can't fix the impact of centuries of racist laws & policies with a tech platform. Systemic issues can only be mitigated by systemic solutions...P👏🏼O👏🏼L👏🏼I👏🏼C👏🏼Y👏🏼
Someone once told me being a lawyer is like being a surgeon except there is another surgeon in the room trying to kill your patient while you are trying to save them. After tough moments with opposing counsel I think about that quote and laugh.
