Want to think more about winter this summer?
Check out Dr. Noelle Patterson’s and my talk about snow, mountain streams and water quality in the #TahoeBasin at @TaylorCreekVC this Friday!
@unrcabnr
Spot the difference!
Blackwood creek (West shore, Lake Tahoe) and Glenbrook creek (East shore, Lake Tahoe) during February (photo 1) and March (photo 3) vs July (photo 2 + 4). We are excited to compare seasonal stream dynamics with the crazy snowpack we received! @KellyALoria
This wild winter snowpack will make for some exciting #laketahoe nearshore productivity dynamics. We are already seeing some serious erosion on both east and west shores. @unrcabnr @jrblasz @heili_lowman @jasmineakrause
Smoke from the #MosquitoFire crept into the #LakeTahoe Basin along the west shore yesterday. Large ash deposits were actually falling on @jasmineakrause and me. Could have some interesting N and P additions in these nearshore water samples 🧪@unrcabnr
NRES wraps up a successful CABNRfit week! Our new students are ready and excited for the fall semester! CABNRfit helps students transition from high school to college courses and meet their new peers through lectures and hands on activities.
Come chat with me about stream carbon and nitrogen cycling in the Tahoe basin Wednesday 5:30-7pm #JASM22@BenthosNews check out other @jrblasz lab members tonight! @NRESnevada
Please come to the poster session tonight and on Wednesday night to check out all the fun science being led by @MeredithBrehob@KellyALoria@heili_lowman & #KeenanSeto (see slide above for times/location)!!
A scene from our summer of SCUBA science to mode nearshore productivity in Lake Tahoe. @jrblasz@heili_lowman and I are getting excited for our spring data download dives!
We are searching for an REU student and an aquatic field and lab technician to start this summer! See details here: https://t.co/ftbV8aEUQY

This January will go down as one of the driest in history in both California and Nevada.
Both Reno and Fresno will for the first time ever record no precipitation in January since records began over 130 years ago in the 1880s. #CAwx
NEW DECEMBER RECORD: 193.7"
With a 24 hour official #snow total of 38.9" at the lab, we have smashed the previous record of 179" of snow in December set in 1970!
Snow rates are still heavy and we could even break the 200" mark today!

Come chat about stream productivity today! #AGU21
