At an AAU event today I walked away from a game because the parents sitting near me were brutal to listen to. So that means their daughters lost the opportunity to be recruited. That’s unfortunate.
Parents. If you have a problem with your kids HS coach, check these boxes before complaining. 1. Does my kid spend 10 hrs. a week doing extra work? 2. Does my son pound the weights? 3. Does my son want this as bad as me? 4. Has my son performed? 5. Does my son compete in practice
Don’t like your HS coach, transfer. Don’t like your JUCO coach, transfer. Don’t play enough at a school, transfer. Don’t play the right position, transfer. Don’t like my role, quit. What on God's green earth are we teaching our kids. Stop it. Be resilient, plant roots, and fight.
Intentionally trying to sabotage a high school coach’s career & livelihood because YOU believe he should be starting your son is absolutely freakin’ pathetic… Worst part is circumstances like that happen more often than you might think.
High school sports are fun. Kids should play for that reason alone. Problem is lots of club coaches tell kids not to compete for their high school so there’s more time to showcase & “get seen”. And kids end up being the ones missing out on the experience. It’s a shame.
COACHES: Championship cultures have team members focused on becoming champions. Teams with championship cultures may not win all their games, but they have athletes that are always winners. They consistently act like champions both on and off-the-court.
"Don’t measure a coach’s success by where his best players end up… anyone can take credit for a naturally gifted superstar, but how do they develop and support the rest of the team as athletes and people?" @kateleavell@JJWatt@CoachPartridge
PLAYERS: When you are on the bench, you never know when Coach will put you into the game. It is important to be an active observer, stay mentally (and physically) ready, and learn as much as you can by watching. Don't make mistakes that a teammate might have previously made!!!
PLAYERS: Just because your coach might be "bad" doesn't mean it is okay for you to have a negative attitude or behave in a poor manner. You still control your attitude, actions, and effort. Integrity is not situational. Rise above your circumstances.
So sick of the “D1 or Bust” mentality. And for what? So your parents can brag to friends?
So few even GET the opportunity to play in college.
IF you get the chance to play at the next level...GO where you can get the best college experience & degree. THAT'S what matters.
Parents...if you're calling the AD at your son's college to complain about the coach...shame on you! If you're trying to get a group of parents together to try to get him fired...you're the problem, not the coach. Your son needs to hear "GET BETTER", "WORK HARDER", "GET STRONGER"
COACHES: You may not know for 10, 15, or 20 years from now whether this year's team was successful. Success is not always about the wins accumulated but rather the winners produced. You are coaching the future leaders of your community!
