Has this happened to anyone else using @lyft@CitiBikeNYC@AskLyft . I'm a regular Citibike user and treat the bikes with respect. I haven't been able to get a bike for some mysterious reason since June. Extremely disappointed in Lyft customer service.
The @AxiosVisuals team has been such an integral part of our reporting and stories, meaning almost every reporter @Axios has worked with them. This is a huge loss.
I hope you take a look at their incredible work and consider hiring them right away.
When I was at Uber, we ran the numbers on the maps app offering the shortest routes
We prob had the biggest dataset with this info: we had millions of trips where we knew both which app was used and how long they took
Now this may be shocking, but the ranking was:
1. Best: Apple Maps
2. Second: Google Maps
3. Worst: Waze (by far)
The research also included which apps people *thought* was worse, and the order came in the exact opposite order.
We understood why Apple Maps got a bad rap given how bad it was at launch — it rapidly got better, but the brand stuck.
Waze was more of a mystery, and we ended up realizing that people thought its routes were best because it was exposing them to so much info on traffic, construction, police presence etc…
Everyone thinks they want a minimalist UI, but in practice, when they see all this info, they subconsciously conclude “wow, these guys really have their shit together” — even when the routes were actually the worst ones.
(This research was done maybe 8y ago, wouldn’t be surprised if these rankings were different today.)
Earlier today, I told someone that I was running the Tokyo Marathon this weekend. Their response was surprise — followed by “you don’t look like a runner!”
The restraint it took for me to not ask “what do you mean?!” rather than laugh it off, like I did. Candidly, people like this are the reason I share what I do about my journey to marathon no. 13.
If you run, you’re a runner. Period.
Don’t let anyone tell you different.
… and if you, too, have been made to feel like you don’t have a runner’s body — I see you. Keep going.
Hello, if anyone out there is making or buying a Yolanda Saldivar piñata for their Selena Quintanilla themed party, let's talk. I'm working on a story. My DMs are open.
Laid off from @TechCrunch , the website I built over the past decade with the help of many wonderful humans including @jordanrcrook, @panzer, @alexia, and @mjburnsy to name just a few. Open to work if you're hiring, and also snap up @morgan_sung and @Harriblogs both also impacted
One of the sadder parts of being laid off from TIME is that my fam & I were so excited about my working here that, for Christmas, my dad got the 100th magazine’s anniversary issue, with the first tiny story I wrote in print, beautifully framed. It’s hanging above my dining table.
layoff meeting was quick and sterile and a test of how much i can politely nod and bite my tongue — remember capitalism is a pig and companies aren't your friend!
