@dennyhamlin Thanks Denny. And thanks to everyone else for the nice comments. I can say with certainty that there has never been a bigger fan in the booth. There may have been in the past or currently in the booth as big a fan, but not bigger. He absolutely LOVED stock car racing.
@philparsons98 I couldnโt say it any better than Phil. In between my junior and senior years of college I spent the summer at Leoโs learning about engines while my dad was driving the 55 car. He even let me live in his basement that summer. Most days I had lunch with him and Banjo Matthews.
@mikejoy500@ChrisSi47254421 Something I also find interesting about those years is that the Riverside race was run under the previous yearโs rules. January of โ81 they ran the bigger cars (112โ wheelbase) before going to the smaller cars at Daytona a month later.
@JDNASCARTech I still live just a few hundred yards away! And Johnโs son, John Jr. still works on vehicles there when heโs not working for CSX railroad.
@kp2world@toomuchcountry Thanks so much!! I still remember the phone call our dad made to tell us he won. I was five but remember it like it was yesterday!
