Just released—a brand new special issue focused entirely on interoception. More to follow, but beyond my usual excitement is the fact that this will be kickstarting 2021!!! https://t.co/CA9GDtqybC

@micahgallen Thanks Micah! Looking forward to meeting next at SfN!

I’m excited to announce the launch of BPCCIR:
Building the Future of Interoceptive Neuroscience
—a new 5-year, $3.5M NIH Blueprint U24 Coordination Center focused on advancing the science of brain–body communication. 1/3

[Sahib Khalsa @KhalsaLab]

I’m thrilled to lead this with @OluAjijola (UCLA), @ruimcosta (Allen Institute), @andermann_mark (Harvard/BIDMC) & @lab_xin (UCSF).

We want the broader community involved.

Our goal: connect interoception research across species, organ systems, disciplines & levels of analysis through a shared digital network, annual meetings/workshops, common terminology & data standards, and training. 2/3

@anilkseth @BBSJournal Congrats @anilkseth! Would that my commentary were accepted among the group. I look forward to perusing the entire collection.

There are many aspects of this dense sampling approach that are innovative, not the least of which is the focus on uterine #interoception across #menstruation. Thank you @pw_savoca for leading this elegant work!

[Paul W. Savoca @pw_savoca]

Excited to share our new protocol paper in Brain, Behavior, & Immunity – Health introducing the CHIRP Study: Cyclic Hormones and Interoception with Repeated Profiling.

🧵See how we're using dense sampling to probe natural fluctuations in #interoception

Antonio Damasio, a giant in the field of consciousness research, has a fascinating new book, out today: Natural Intelligence & the Logic of Consciousness by Antonio Damasio: 9798217207497 | https://t.co/jwZwwc49BW: Books https://t.co/MJJsnJw7nI

The project involves vibrating capsules, EEG, psychophys and Bayesian modeling to examine clinical biomarkers. You'll test cutting-edge hypotheses about bottom-up vs. top-down processing of bodily signals, w/ opportunities to publish, collaborate & innovate. Email me for details

Postdoc job alert! I’m looking for someone with a PhD in neuroscience/psychology, psychiatry, computational modeling or a related field to join my NIH-funded team at UCLA studying the neural & computational mechanisms of #interoception in anorexia nervosa 1/2

Nice paper from Wani Woo (@choongwanwoo ) and colleagues articulating a role for interoception in AI. Very timely!

Although we search for orthostatic tachycardia to make a diagnosis of POTS - the heart may indeed by a “bystander:” we must try to better understand central & central autonomic “top- down” processes @OluAjijola @KhalsaLab @PrashSanders @shivkumarmd

I’m grateful to my co-authors Manal Khan, Juliet Edgcomb, Jonathan Heldt, Yvonne Yang, Katrina Debonis, and Misty Richards, who are psychiatry education leaders or experts in LLMs (or both!) for a thoughtful collaboration.

AI is already entering psychiatric training. Our new review argues that staged, supervised integration that protects clinical reasoning, formulation, privacy, equity, and the therapeutic relationship is key. AI should deepen (not replace) the human work of psychiatry. Link below

More work remains before these findings translate to clinical application. But given how difficult relapse prevention remains in AN, these are questions worth pursuing.

Some of the most intriguing findings in our recent JAMA Psychiatry study of anorexia nervosa were not the ones we originally set out to study.

[Sahib Khalsa @KhalsaLab]

If so, understanding how these changes relate to recovery, symptom improvement, and relapse prevention may open new directions for both mechanistic research and treatment development.
