During the chaos of grad school, I got to see my advocacy post in the AWIS 2025 Annual Report. A reminder to keep my why at the forefront—and to pause and be proud along the way. Grateful for opportunities to make a difference.
In a year filled with challenges for women in science, AWIS supported members with grants, scholarships, learning opportunities, advocacy initiatives, a new career center, and more. Read all about it in the AWIS Annual Report. https://t.co/k21euAe29M #WomenInScience

"I sat in my supervisor’s office, red-faced and anxious, words tumbling out faster than I could control. For half an hour, I vented everything I had been holding in for months: the stress, the doubt, the sense that I didn’t belong. I was in the third year of my Ph.D., and a creeping fear had taken root that I wasn’t cut out for academia.
"I expected some kind of judgment or disappointment. Instead, my supervisor listened patiently, then calmly offered a line I’ll never forget: 'You are here to learn to ride a bicycle, not to invent a bicycle.' That one sentence landed softly, but it cracked something open."

Introducing myself since I'm starting my account from scratch. I love science. I love my students and I love baking. My lab studies how the immune system can be targeted to improve diabetes and polycystic ovary syndrome. My family is everything to me.. and my lab is also family.
Our earlier research showed what we had been observing for decades: Women with PCOS in Alberta often waited years and saw several providers before getting a diagnosis.
