I think our sanctions system has gone very badly wrong.
As @EleanorCarter also put it, it's also one of the most punitive regimes in the world with the severity of the penalties causing significant harm to people and families affected.

TL;DR:
Good-ish news on pay and unemployment, but being driven by labour shortages post-Covid/ Brexit and risks even higher inflation.
So we need action to boost labour supply, growth and incomes - not just dampen demand thru interest rates 1/
