MacFarlane: The crudeness with which [Donald Trump] speaks was in sharp contrast to what we heard Thursday when President Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama addressed the crowds from the podium at the opening of the Obama Center.
It's what you didn't hear from the Obamas that made the contrast clear. They didn't use those Trumpian techniques of name-calling, of cursing, of menacing political rivals, of saying things that belittle people.
We've all become quite accustomed to this name-calling culture that has gotten into our national bloodstream during the era of Trump. And the contrast was noteworthy.
A new report from the Pew Research Center says American politics is not as simple as red versus blue. It's often messy, complicated and hard to put into a box.
Pew surveyed more than 10,000 Americans and split the public into nine distinct groups along political and cultural values. Despite a polarized political environment, the report finds just a minority of Americans are truly all in for either party.
Watch @IAmAmnaNawaz's conversation with Pew's Jocelyn Kiley.
The inflation rate in Biden's last month in office was 2.9%. Trump (supported by a Republican Congress) has driven it up to 4.2%.
Thank you, voters, for your attention to this matter.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism. But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. It’s stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. I’ve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnn’s @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to “smile”, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say “No more.”
Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldn’t! And neither should any of us. It’s unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.

After she was shot, a voice on the recording can be heard saying, “fucking bitch.” Multiple news organizations have reported hearing the remark.
You can debate immigration policy all day long.
But look at her family and tell me:
Is this justice?
My pet theory of what ails the world: a lot of it is just folks skipping Econ 101. So I made Platypus Economics to fix that — clearly, cheerfully, no jargon. Have a gander, and if it makes the world feel less murky, subscribe.

"The good news is that chlorine, which is widely used in pools, is effective at killing many pathogens. The not-so-good news is that chlorine does not work instantly – and it doesn't kill everything," Lisa Cuchara wrote for The Conversation in 2025. https://t.co/A6eP7dgscs
You didn't pay $1 billion for trump's ballroom, turns out you paid $50 billion in contracts to the companies who donated millions to build the ballroom.
CBS News fired longtime "60 Minutes" Correspondent Scott Pelley after a contentious all-staff meeting in which he clashed with new Executive Producer Nick Bilton and accused Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss of “murdering” the storied newsmagazine.
Recent firings by the network have included notable figures like Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega.
It's the latest chapter of upheaval at CBS News. Steve Kroft, a "60 Minutes" correspondent for 30 seasons before retiring, joins @GeoffRBennett to discuss this in further depth.
These days I’m at a loss for words. The new corruption scandal is just bananas. Trump has been using inside information to trade stocks and make millions. And the scale of the trading is just mind blowing.
Here’s what we know.
For the last 38 years, I’ve been a pastor for a church that is roughly equal parts Democrats, Republicans, and independents. We’ve learned to love and embrace each other precisely because of our differences.
Washington doesn’t need more political fights made for TV. Kansans deserve a government that listens.
I’m an independent-minded Democrat. I’ll lead by listening, speaking out against the wrongs, and fighting for our freedoms.

Trump is now reportedly responsible for roughly 27.7% of the entire U.S. national debt accumulated under all presidents combined.
That is an astonishing figure historically.
The national debt just crossed $39 trillion.
President Trump has added roughly $12–13 trillion to the debt across his two terms in office.
That’s approximately 30% of ALL U.S. national debt accumulated since 1789.
In 2016, Trump said he would pay down the national debt “over a period of eight years.”
Instead:
- First term: +$7.8 trillion
- Second term: roughly +$4–5 trillion already
And yes, COVID affected first-term spending.
It does not explain adding another trillion dollars every five months without a pandemic.
A political movement built on:
“fiscal conservatism”
“small government”
“balanced budgets”
has now overseen the largest debt expansion tied to any single presidency in American history.
“They” didn’t leak Trump’s tax returns. An IRS contractor did - along with thousands of other tax returns - during Trump’s first term.
Biden’s DOJ prosecuted the contractor, who got the max: 5 years in prison.
This is shameful spin from SDNY U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton.
The total value of Trump’s transactions in the first three months of this year—$750 million—is higher than the value of all trades by all 535 members of the House and Senate *combined* in an average year. https://t.co/Dr1pm0kCwN
