5. The Plus-Alias Attribution System

When you distribute your primary address universally, you lose the ability to trace the origin of any spam or data breach. You have no visibility into which vendor sold or leaked your information.

Gmail ignores all characters after a plus sign (+) in the local address. [email protected] delivers identically to [email protected] — but carries a traceable identifier.

The fix: Assign a unique alias to every service: [email protected],
[email protected]. When spam arrives addressed to a specific alias, you have a precise audit trail. Create a Gmail filter to automatically route or delete mail sent to compromised aliases without touching your primary inbox.
