Title:Reproductive “isolation” on fern leaves: Evolution of dimorphic syndromes in the genus Tectaria
#FernFriday HupA, a famous pharmacologically alkaloid from Huperzioideae lycophytes. In our paper earlier this year, fungal metabarcoding also identified putative trans-microorganisms for HupA cosynthesis! Very happy to see these new findings published!

Before this #FernFriday vacation in Taiwan, we had a productive week for pteridologists, with interesting fern talks, discussions, and fieldwork! New fern spore projects, cool Hymenasplenium gametophytes, new HGTs in fern plastomes, & one more time for Tectaria leaf dimorphism!
#FernFriday Had a great week with Yone @yoneoka1915hap in the field! We successfully collected seven Hymenasplenium spp. in Taiwan for the exciting fern gametophyte project. Looking forward to seeing the results from these fascinating materials soon!
#FernFriday Just DNA-confirmed that these whitish, coral-like organisms are indeed gametophytes of Ophioderma—the epiphytic Adder’s tongue ferns! Super exciting this time finding even more mysterious myco-heterophytic fern gametophytes!
Just in time for #FernFriday- Yun, our first master student working on Adder’s ferns has successfully defended her thesis! She’ll be sharing more fascinating stories about mixotrophy of Ophioglossum soon!
#FernFriday Pre-lecture investigations to find suitable field sites for our coming Fern Systematics course. > 100 spp. in one trail! & a new fern dish (first time time test a Pteris)
Jacob Suissa and I wrote a #book about #ferns! It's beautifully illustrated by the amazing artist Laura Silburn. Will be released in May and you can preorder from Amazon. More here: https://t.co/WKJWhspTUb
#FernFriday Very happy to have this opportunity giving a fern talk at Life Science Department of NTU—the campus where my pteridology journey began! Once thought the topic of independent fern gametophytes might not excite new generation, but I was wrong!
Finally, we found this hybrid again in the field-- Tectaria membranacea × subtriphylla, with it parents! Congratulation to You-Wun's Tectaria talk! #FernFriday
#FernFriday several ferntastic activities indoor and outdoor! Gametophyte finding by three generations of Lomario-pteridologists, exciting project staring from Taiwanese fern collections in KBCC, rge new book by @fern_way et al. in press!
#FernFriday We just announced a new fern special issue in NZJB! Welcome manuscripts investigating insular diversity and reticulate evolution of Paleotropical ferns! https://t.co/Jibp6A3J3C
#FernFriday Just completed the last thesis defense of interesting fern topics this semester! Congratulation to young pterido-bioinformatist, pterido-entomologist @ZongYuShen, and pterido-mycologist!
#FernFriday Our annual activity of digging underground gametophytes of Sceptridium ferns, this time with some fresh hands! Surprisingly, the undergraduate Diya found the largest one we had ever seen, nearly 3 cm!
