Sonny Rollins, who passed away yesterday at the age of 95, was the last living musician shown in "A Great Day in Harlem," Art Kane's amazing 1958 photo. In 1966 Rollins released two LPs in my all-time pantheon, "Alfie" (the soundtrack to a Michael Caine movie) and "East Broadway Run Down." RIP sir.
The Q train extension to East Harlem continues to make steady progress! From relocating utilities, to digging shafts for the future station entrances, our crews have been hard at work as construction remains on schedule and within budget!
Here’s a look at some of the latest developments.

In a chilling video from a New York City subway train, one passenger confronts another, demanding he turn off his speaker. Rather than comply, the man responds by rapping graphic threats of extreme violence—including a vow to slice the passenger’s face open with a knife—while acting in an openly aggressive and threatening manner.
Shockingly, no police officers were present to intervene. Yet Governor Hochul and Mayor Mamdani have remained silent and taken no action to address the escalating disorder in our transit system.
This cannot continue. New Yorkers deserve the truth, and they deserve safety. It is long past time for real leadership and meaningful change on our subways.
I am sharing this video bc this is EVERY block in NYC- but particularly egregious in east Harlem where they have saturated the community with “harm reduction” facilities that do not treat anyone with substance abuse. These facilities ENRICH greedy non profits like @NYSOASAS and their ilk. Do not be confused about what IVDU. It is not diabetes. I see this terrible disease on the UWS. UES, downtown, queens- all in the name of “equity” and other garbage word salad. The grotesque politicians - EVERY @nydems is complicit and culpable. @RezaC1@queens_parents@JCAndersonNYC@FamilyHarlem
@FamilyHarlem@sarithaforny East Harlem desperately needs leadership of this magnitude.. For all the parents sick and tired of shots ringing out while their kids are outside it's time to vote with intelligence and support the strongest candidate who will make our city streets safe again. VOTE BEST CANDIDATE
@thee_relaxwme If one "grocery store" costs $30 million, for a 9,000-square-foot East Harlem site, that equates to a construction cost of more than $3,000 per square foot, how the hell is he going to build 200,000 homes? And "free transportation" AND "free daycare"?
@Sassafrass_84 it happened before, search for the 80's NYC bankruptcy and property sales give a way.. like buying a Brownstone in the east village/upper Westside, Spanish Harlem or even buildings on alphabet city or Spanish Harlem for pennies on the dollar
@ceaweaver Under PACT taxpayers pay corporate landlords double for what @NYCHA can do! 662M can compmod 22 buildings in East Harlem or 7900-1100 vouchers 🤔
