Today is a big day in the @Livepeer ecosystem, as we share the launch of the new Livepeer Foundation!

8 years ago, at the dawn of the project, we opted not to take the Foundation path, for many of the reasons that @milesjennings from A16Z Crypto recently articulated in a popular blog post. They seemed like inefficient, regulatory arbitrage vehicles that hindered progress moreso than accelerating it. I formed the Livepeer Inc dev-co, to collaborate with the many people contributing to and running Livepeer, and we were off to the races, building, launching, and generating demand for the network.

Fast forward all of these years, and we have a thriving decentralized network, powering millions of minutes of video transcoding and AI video processing/week, built by many different companies and SPEs, and run by hundreds of node operators and thousands of delegating token holders.

The Foundation that we’re launching today looks very different from the anti-pattern of foundations described in Jenning’s post, and instead will serve as a lean, neutral coordinator, of this decentralized ecosystem with a sharp focus on unleashing value through well coordinated allocation of resources to support public goods. The many companies and special purpose entities building Livepeer, including Livepeer Inc, Streamplace, DDVTech, Cloud SPE, AI SPE, Agent SPE, StreamETH, OriginStories, UFO Club, and more will all continue to focus on their missions - building products, driving demand, building infrastructure, etc - but they will benefit from the Foundation aiding to coordinate the roadmaps and unlock grant and treasury resources across product, growth, markets, and governance.

I couldn’t be more excited about the team that will be the driving force behind the foundation, lead by @honestly_rich, and @rick_staa on the technical end - each with significant experience building and growing Livepeer from a community first point of view.
