At the ongoing IAFS2026 in Sofia, Dr Charles Karangwa today delivered a presentation highlighting Rwanda as Africa’s next regional forensic hub and a strategic destination for international forensic collaboration. He emphasized Rwanda’s unique model of an independent forensic institution integrating cross-cutting forensic disciplines under one entity — a rare approach across many African countries in the forensic science domain.
Dr. Charles is leading the Rwandan delegation participating in , currently taking place at the National Palace of Culture.

Rwanda Forensic Institute (RFI) is participating in the AAFS 2026 International Conference, which brings together forensic science and justice professionals from around the world. The conference is being held in New Orleans, USA.
In addition, an exhibition showcasing advanced technologies and innovations used in forensic science is taking place alongside the conference.

Today,RFI received a delegation from African Wildlife Foundation(AWF) led by its Program Manager Mr Rukwaya Jean Luc.The delegation met the Director General and our DNA Experts.
They discussed various areas of collaboration including the e-DNA capacity building and DNA testing for biodiversity monitoring.

RFI has successfully installed Scanning Electron Microscope machine (SEM),a milestone achieved to help in analyzing gunshoot residues,fibers,glasses,soil,biological solid substances,pharmaceuticals,topographical images,metals etc...
The machine will also help in research,Quality control for industries and many more.
Today,The Director General of RFI @DrKarangwa showcased the unique forensic model of Rwanda during the INTERPOL 21st International Forensic Science Managers Symposium taking place in Lyon,France.His presentation focused on the background of forensic science in Rwanda,its role in justice system and the uniqueness of being Multiforensics hub in Africa.
