The Commission fully supports the @IntlCrimCourt & its officials.
The ICC holds perpetrators of the world’s gravest crimes to account & gives victims a voice.
It must be free to act without pressure.
We will always stand for global justice & the respect of international law.
We are deeply alarmed about the sanctioning of the judges of the International Criminal Court by the US. The ICC must be able to carry out its mandate without fear or favour. Judicial and prosecutorial independence of the ICC is of utmost importance.
Congratulations @PaiviKaukoranta, new President of Assembly of States Parties @IntlCrimCourt!
”It’s a great privilege&responsibility. I promise to bring to this role same devotion as I did as a young lawyer participating in 1st preparatory meetings of Rome Statute in NY 30y ago”

In this moment of peril, I must underscore my duty as Secretary-General to uphold the @UN Charter.
The Charter is clear.
Any annexation of a State’s territory by another State resulting from the threat or use of force is a violation of the Principles of the Charter & int’l law.
#Finland, like many other States, has decided to take part in two sets of international judicial proceedings in which #Ukraine demands that #Russia be held responsible for violations of international law. ⤵️

Today and on all other days we #StandWithUkraine 🇺🇦 Our thoughts are with #Ukraine and its people. #Finland's support to Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity is firm.
I strongly condemn the military measures Russia has started in Ukraine. Russia's acts target Ukraine, but at the same time they are an attack on the entire European security order. We feel deep compassion towards Ukraine and are seeking ways to increase our support to Ukraine.
