Our new preprint is out! We discovered a novel survival strategy for cells with mitochondrial defects. By sequestering toxic fats in lipid droplets, they protect themselves from ferroptosis. Lipid droplets as cellular bodyguards! 💪 #mitochondria#metabolism#ferroptosis#OXPHOS
The study by Korandová et al shows pathway control ratios of permeabilized PBMCs may serve as a reliable predictor for mitochondrial diseases in patients with Complex I defects.

We also enjoyed the stunning spring landscape of the Jizerske Mountains. Many thanks to @FGU_AVCR for their support, and to all participants for contributing to such a dynamic and inspiring atmosphere.

We had a fantastic time at the 38th Bioenergetics 2025 meeting in Vysoké nad Jizerou this week. This year’s event featured international guests from the @NenckiInstitute (Polish Academy of Sciences) and from Slovakian universities in Martin, Košice, and Bratislava.
A special thank you to @BoguszKulawiak for his excellent plenary lecture on potassium channels and mitochondrial physiology. Discussions covered a wide range of topics including mitochondrial biology, metabolism, adipose tissue, and muscle physiology.
🎉 Huge congratulations to our team! 🎉 At the PhD Student Conference from @FGU_AVCR, we proudly took home the Best Presentation Awards: 1st place to Michal and 2nd place to María! 🥇🥈 Plus, a 3rd Best Poster Award for Habiba! 🏆👏 #PhDLife#ProudLab

Adipocyte inflammation is the primary driver of hepatic insulin resistance in a human iPSC-based microphysiological system #MASLD#diabetes@NatureComms https://t.co/mo3yDfPg9d
We found that physiological variance in mitochondrial rRNA may lead to slower mitochondrial translation resulting in lower oxidative capacity and accumulation of diacylglycerols that inhibits insulin signalling pathway. This couldn’t be done without @FGU_AVCR and @BiologyCentre
Obese? Blame your mitochondrial DNA! Check the impact of mitochondrial rRNA sequence variability on insulin resistance development in diet-induced obesity. Link: https://t.co/8Ov7ZQWsIq 1/2
Just out today in @NatureNeuro led by @EbrahimAsadoll3 & @KlausNave@mpi_nat. Pleased to have contributed. Oligodendrocytes break down & burn their fat when glucose is limited to fuel white matter. #Metabolism flexibility always key to survival.

Our paper on HIF-1α and mitophagy is out! Cardioprotective adaptation to chronic hypoxia (CH) reduces mitochondrial mass via HIF-1α activated mitophagy to save the heart against ischemia/reperfusion injury. Link: https://t.co/L9PBeu4CV0 1/3
