@postviraltrials@klmatter People also have loss of taste and smell and no other LC symptoms, which seems likely to also be a different thing. Makes no sense to assume all post-covid conditions must be the same thing.
@postviraltrials@klmatter Leaving aside if Al-Aly is right or not, there isn't necessarily any connection between post-covid heart conditions, PE, etc in older folks and ME-type long covid.
There's no reason to believe that these two conditions have to be the same thing or present together.
@sunsopeningband A small bit of feedback: For the question "Please indicate the statement that best describes your level of physical function." the drop-down select is hard to use and the longer text gets cut off.
Would be much easier to read as radio buttons.
@HerbertoDhanis@dbkell@resiapretorius@RobWust Not sure what you can conclude from this, other than a subset of about half the LC cohort has more amyloid deposits than controls both at baseline and after the exercise test. Otherwise, it's kind of all over the place.
@resiapretorius@HerbertoDhanis@dbkell But the Wรผst paper showed about the same absolute increase in amyloid deposits in healthy controls and LC patients after exercise testing, which suggests it's perhaps not a problem with amyloid moving into tissues, but it being catabolized.
@bellachu10 @StefanFSchubert@DavidZipper Also, many criticized escooters because they were strewn all over the sidewalks, blocking mobility for other users. The companies involved didn't seem to care (some ebike systems had the same issue and had the same criticism aimed at them).
@bellachu10 @StefanFSchubert@DavidZipper Data โ and common sense โ shows that escooters are much more dangerous than bikes.
Riding a bike in traffic is somewhat dangerous, riding an escooter in traffic is very frightening.
@thisistheillme Wรผst et al doesn't really show anything about what PEM is.
They found some abnormalities in muscle but we don't really know how those are connected to PEM. At least some of them probably are, but we don't know how. If we know that, we could ask how other exertion could cause PEM.
@jewstein3000 Yup, nitrates and nitrites are naturally occurring in celery. That's why they add celery powder (made from celery juice) to nitrate free cured meats.
@RobWust @brucetheschnoz @NatureComms Did you stain for endothelial cells and amyloid together in controls as well, or just in patients? It would be interesting to know if they were associated in healthy controls and not patients or not associated in both.
