Update on my nearly $5000 medical bill for dehydration:
1) Still in limbo with @MayoClinic, no clarity or progress negotiating charges.
2) Surprised to hear some ER doctors are upset over my complaint about a $10,000 bill ($5000 post-insurance adjustment) for < 12hrs in ED with 3 IV bags + labs, EKG
3) Received excellent care, definitely not blaming docs, but flawed systems- esp coding & billing.
4) Systemic issues at play: defensive medicine, opaque pricing, exorbitant markups, billing discrepancies.
5) Grateful to @USATODAY for shedding light. Not about me—it's about 100 million in medical debt & millions more avoiding necessary care due to fear of costs. 😞

Fascinating how wearing masks (or not) can be contagious.
When boarding my plane, I had on my mask. Several people upon noticing me, also retrieved theirs and put them on. Seems seeing others wearing masks provides a social cue or reassurance to do the same. 😷👍🏽
We need antivirals and treatments for LC.
It’s been almost 4 years. Millions suffering, millions more to come.
We have no tools. None.
Stop the smoke and mirrors.
We need action.
@meganranney So “do no harm” is meaningless? And patient bill of rights is worthless? My elderly mom and my family have to continue to risk our health to get basic healthcare and dental care. Disgusting lack of accountability and recourse for everyone.
@meganranney This also means that when my BP crashes and I pass out during my semi-annual immunosuppressant/sterioids combo treatment and they remove my mask to resusitate me, I will be surrounded by untested, unmasked people breathing all over me. 👀
2) Folks- Dr Shah @nirav_uscdc is one of the BEST public health leaders in the world. He was aggressive early pandemic when he was Maine’s CDC director - well ahead of other leaders. He’s among the best precautionary public health leaders! He is on team precautionary- ONE OF US!
📍i have new hope for the CDC. Who is NIRAV SHAH? The big news isn’t that Walensky is gone—but that we may *finally* have good interim leadership—Dr Nirav D Shah is CDC’s new Principal Deputy Director—who successfully served for 2 governors (Maine & Illinois) and former President of @ASTHO. He is both competent and beloved (proof—they even sell Dr Shah coffee mugs ☕️ in Maine!). A child of Indian immigrants, he even chose to once work for Cambodia’s Ministry of Health. He has the heart and empathy of a saint. This is why I have so much hope for the future of the CDC. Please do me a favor and follow @nirav_uscdc.

and I have many friends and family who have not been infected, because all of us have undertaken significant measures to prevent infection. We did not go through all of this sacrifice so that a hospital can disregard our health and give us our first infection. Number 2 - even if
So, I wrote about *that* mask study. We need to stop giving so much air to bad faith actors. Their goal is to exhaust us and numb us into losing empathy and giving up. Masks protect ourselves and our communities. Let’s put that science into action.

This is big, folks. The @WhiteHouse is supporting next generation—nasal and variant-proof Covid vaccines —and therapies with a $5 billion program https://t.co/fMxCJAzIA5 by @ddiamond
Thanks to the relentless efforts of @AshishKJha46 and @WHCOVIDResponse👍
