CCN chairman Cllr Paul Carter responds to today's report from Max Caller on Northamptonshire, and his recommendations on #localgov reorganisation, below. For the full response, visit here: https://t.co/GxvX5WGdiq
Professor Stephen Hawking was a brilliant and extraordinary mind - one of the great scientists of his generation. His courage, humour and determination to get the most from life was an inspiration. His legacy will not be forgotten.
Well done @LeaderNCC for standing up for Counties AND #localgov on #r4today@BBCr4today. Shared services will not deal with the pressures facing the sector & struggling councils are not all ‘inefficient’ and poor performing.
.@1SimonEdwards tells @public_finance_ “It is county boundaries that have the size and scale necessary to retain and reform crucial frontline public services so they work better for residents, whilst offering the best scope for financial savings.” https://t.co/4ZxXvE121o
@SmithersJason Why dont you resign? I have never come across a Conservative Councillor like you before. Your behaviour in the short few days since your election has demonstrated how unsuitable you are to represent anyone.
Back to basics! @ChesterFarmNcc is a 35 hectare site, most of which is Scheduled because of its important buried #archaeology, with a complex of farm buildings, some Listed. The current project aims to make accessible its amazing #heritage.
"We're reaching the point where it all begins to crash" - Local Government Information Unit chief executive @joncarrwest on the state of local government finances. Northamptonshire County Council going bust "just the tip of the iceberg". @LGiU_Daily_News @LGANews@SWCouncils
@Puddle_Poole@CllrRobinBrown So just how would you know that. You have never been involved in demand led services. If you dont understand anything dont just make it up.
Tonight the Labour Party voted against cutting stamp duty for first-time buyers. Sign up to back our plan to put people before politics: https://t.co/dOem9yiH2d
The only person who now has all the in depth detail and knowledge of NCC is Gov Inspector. It is vital to wait for his report. Speculation by all doesnt help the situation. KPMG report is clear. Increase Council tax, cut services to reduce reliance of using property sale money https://t.co/ssobiX65Rb
Now @mycountycouncil warned by KPMG its budget for NEXT year may be unlawful as it may not balance. It’s already been warned about THIS financial year. Budget setting for next year due this Thursday now postponed. Extraordinary times.
There is an interesting story of what it was like living at Chester Farm during the Second World War when prisoners of war helped work on the land. Plus sighting an R101 airship.
