Hey #Teachersof𝕏 I have a great bell ringer math activity for the first day of school: How many likes per second (or minute) did @taylorswift13 engagement announcement get if she has 21 million likes in the first 7 hours?
😆 (congrats to the gym and English teacher!)
“This article describes the Rising Star Scaffolding Decision Guide, a step-by-step guide for scaffolding children's early spelling during one-on-one writing activities in the classroom.”
SORticle #19: The Rising Star Scaffolding Guide, Supporting Young Children’s Early Spelling Skills
Over the years, I’ve noticed that much of the professional development offered to teachers has focused solely on improving students’ reading skills. But what about their spelling and writing skills, too? Spelling interventions may actually be more effective at improving students’ reading skills than reading interventions alone (Shanahan, 2021).
We can’t let another pendulum swing and focus on decoding without discussing encoding, too!
This article by Copp, Cabell, Gabas, and Todd provides a much-needed framework to support classroom teachers spelling instruction in the classroom. #SORticle

Hey educators, if you want your students to learn how to read, give them more difficult text. You can’t teach reading to students that already know how to read the text you gave them!

@ERheinberger@NateJoseph19 An old version of DIBELS is what Acadiance is … somehow they bought a portion/edition of DIBELS or changed names or something… but they essentially have the same measures. At least when I used DIBELS, I was able to find the same passages and prompts later on, under “Acadiance”

@pennell_colleen @pennell_colleen I have been looking at this book—sounds so good from what others say! Do you know, are all the interventions in there evidence based??
While filming, one of the things that shocked us the most was the effort teachers had to put in to get just a basic #literacy curriculum. Many are working after hours to piecemeal curricula to provide BASIC literacy instruction. BASIC. Publishers and districts, that’s on you.
