@BrandonWarmke How much? Entirely. Selective demand for rigor is the single most important technique for squashing unwanted lines of inquiry. It's used to pursue both grand politics (Arday) and petty politics (I want to reject this paper b/c I hate the author). There is no norm against it.

@FamedCelebrity The most plausible explanation for that post is that the poster not only has never met anyone who is in academia for the right reasons but that he cannot imagine such a person. So, he just assumes that the soup of mediocrity he swims in is what excellence smells like.

@merlinreedfield @phl43 It doesn't matter what's acceptable to Saudi and UAE. If it's true that Israel is calling the shots, the whole analysis of Trump's interests and internal mental states is irrelevant, and a completely different analysis is necessary.
