Many discoveries can be read here on diseases such as Familial Malignant Melanoma, Retinitis pigmentosa, ADHD, Essential Tremor, Alzheimer's and more!
My class and I completed a series of research projects on genetic diseases. Very interesting stuff with lots of information! Link to follow #prescottgenomics
@Firesta85432276 It can definitely put the consumer at risk. I do see that there is a law against health insurances using genetic data to discriminate which is a good start! @prescottgenomics
@Cuz_science_lit It is an interesting rule! I remember first hearing about it in the bioethics course I took. It is a good that there are rules like this, but I still think more is needed in different areas #prescottgenomics
@_RachelAnastasi Interesting article! I was interested to see that Sweden said no to everything on table 1, while the other countries had at least one yes. I also haven't put much thought into posthumous sharing. #prescottgenomics
There are many interesting laws in place to protect the consumer of genetic testing. In France, it is still illegal to order DTC genetic testing. This makes them the last country in Europe to not allow this kind of testing! https://t.co/DRprf174Dx #French23andme#genetesting
new paper by James W. Haze et al: "Direct-to-consumer genetic testing: Prospective users’ attitudes toward information about ancestry and biological relationships" https://t.co/Uno4KZQ3cp
In this article the author discusses how retinal gene therapy shows promise in treating retinitis pigmentosa. This was the first human clinical trial done for X-linked RP! #prescottgenomics
While looking up genes that cause kidney cancer for #prescottgenomics I noticed ensembl also lists other diseases that this gene can cause. Very interesting how it is mostly allergy based illnesses.
Thanks to @23andMe it is very simple to view what genes increase your chances of showing different traits. I think it is a great tool for the average person to learn more about themselves and about genomics! #prescottgenomics
23andMe initiated a Phase 1 clinical trial for our 1st wholly-owned investigational antibody for treatment of advanced solid tumors
23ME-00610 targets CD200R1, which was identified as a promising immuno-oncology target through our Research program (1/8)
