SFH RIHHWID (Reducing the Incidence of HIV and Hepatitis among Women Who Inject Drugs) Project, funded by ViiV Healthcare Positive Action, aims to reduce morbidity and mortality due to HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C among Women Who Inject Drugs (WIDs) in three states: Abia, Gombe, and Oyo. Key achievements from 2022 included the successful linkage of 3,084 WIDs to the National Needle and Syringe Programme (NSP) and linking 663 women to cervical cancer screening. Over two years, the project reached 7,540 WIDs, providing HIV testing services to 5,412 and screening 3,878 for Hepatitis C. In addition, 61 women were linked to #HIV treatment. The project utilised evidence from the national Needle and Syringe Programme pilot, pioneered by SFH and its partners, to guide interventions tailored specifically for WIDs.
The project held its End of Project Dissemination Meeting in Abuja, bringing together key stakeholders from @Fmohnigeria, @NACANigeria, @NphcdaNG, @nascpfmoh, Nigeria Police Force (Police Action Committee on #AIDS), @WHO, @UNODC, and other implementing partners such as @YouthRISE_NG, @Jhpiego, @APINNigeria, @dhranofficial, Heartland Alliance, @CHAI_health, and @ECEWS.

The Reducing the Incidence of #HIV and #Hepatitis among Women who Inject Drugs (RIHHWID) project, aimed at reducing morbidity and mortality due to HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis C infections for women who inject drugs in Abia, Gombe, and Oyo states held it's End of Project Review Meeting from August 20th to 22nd, 2024 in Lagos State.
The meeting brought together project staff and other participants including the GC7 N-THRIP Project Director, Dr Charles ODIMA and the Pediatric and Adolescent Programme Project Director, Aisha Dadi to assess the programme's impact and document key learnings with a focus on evaluating the programme's effectiveness, discussing challenges, and analysing state-specific results. It was structured to facilitate thorough review and strategic discussions to enhance future interventions. The meeting also had sessions which focused on harm reduction, gender-responsive strategies, telling our stories and report writing.
The end of project review provided valuable insights into the project strategies and best practices, documenting the findings for future initiatives and continued collaboration in the fight against HIV and Viral Hepatitis.

Public Health Alert - Cholera Outbreak in Nigeria
The recent report by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control @NCDCgov highlighting 1,141 confirmed suspected cholera cases across 30 states in 2024 signifies a serious public health threat. In response to this, it is imperative to implement and adhere to stringent preventive measures to mitigate the spread of the disease.
SFH will continue to intensify its water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) intervention by providing access to clean and safe water using P&G water purifier and other chlorine-based water treatment options such as Water guard Tank Floater, promote hygiene, improve sanitation and raise community engagement and awareness.
Play your part by safeguarding your health, and collectively, we can overcome this outbreak, ensuring a healthier future for all.
