Sixty-one years ago, the Voting Rights Act became the law of the land after generations of Americans refused to accept that the right to vote should depend on who you are.

Today, we have a Supreme Court that gutted the Voting Rights Act and a Republican Party that wants to cheat to steal power from the people. They are scared of your power and want you to believe your vote does not matter.

Let me be clear: Your voice and your vote are your power. Never let anybody take your power.

Let us remember the leaders who made the progress of the Voting Rights Act possible, and let us honor them by continuing to fight for the freedom to vote for every American.

"For our Great Republican Senators, friends of mine 'all,' please be advised that the Communist Dumocrat Senate Candidate from Michigan, Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, is touting, as perhaps his single most important point, the Termination of the Filibuster," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

You can tell from the pathetic, meaningless "communist" smear as well as his fearmongering use of El-Sayed's full Arabic name that Trump is terrified of this candidate. He can see the progressive wave rising and he knows it's going to wash away his fascist MAGA movement for good.

"I watched yesterday, and he’s gone Termination CRAZY," Trump continued. "If he succeeds, the Dumocrats will gain 4 Senators, 8 Congressmen, many Electoral and Popular Votes, a stacked Supreme Court with 23 Justices, and I will be, sadly, despite the great job we are doing, the last Republican President! President DONALD J. TRUMP."

El-Sayed is indeed calling for an end to the filibuster because it's a fundamentally undemocratic mechanism that allows the Senate to function as a tool of right-wing minoritarian rule. Popular programs should not require a 60 vote threshold for implementation, because that gives far too much power to red states with sparse populations.

Thanks to the Senate — which is a historic relic that was designed in large part to appease slaveholders — a single vote in Wyoming carries the effective weight of 67 votes in California. The former state has a population of 590,000 and California is home to 39.4 million people. And yet both states receive just two votes in the Senate.

As for Trump's promise that electing El-Sayed and terminating the filibuster will usher in a new age of Democratic governance, all we can say is: God we sure hope so!

His mention of "4 senators" is presumably a reference to D.C. and Puerto Rico statehood, which would be far easier to pass without the filibuster.

We should also be open to the idea of expanding the Supreme Court. What was once intended to be a neutral body for interpreting the laws that Congress passes has mutated into a corrupt apparatus for Republican control of our civilization. It has become blatantly partisan and must be reformed.

Imagine for a moment what this country would be like if we never had another Republican President. No more pointless foreign wars. No more tax cuts for oligarchs and planet-destroying corporations. No more covering up the Epstein files.

Instead, we'd have Medicare for All, affordable housing, fair wages, paid family leave, a green energy revolution, and an end to support for genocide.

BREAKING: TOTAL FAILURE! Trump gets devastating news as polling reveals that a jaw-dropping 75% of Americans believe that his Iran War is "not worth the cost."

And it gets so much worse for MAGA...

According to a Marquette Law School Supreme Court Poll, 88% of Americans also believe that the United States "has not achieved its goals" in the war, with only 12% disagreeing with that sentiment.

That 12% must have their heads stuck deep in the sand. This Iran War is a failure of historic proportions. The United States has not achieved any of its strategic goals despite Trump falsely claiming over and over again that Iran's military is totally destroyed. In reality, they now exert direct control over the Strait of Hormuz, allowing them to hold the global economy in a chokehold.

At the same time, Trump has burned through America's precision missile arsenal, leaving us in a profoundly weakened state. All the while, Americans are paying more for gas and groceries, aware that this entire conflict was started to forward Israel's national interests at our expense.

To that point, the same poll found that 52% of Americans believe that we are providing too much military support to Israel. That high of a number would have been unthinkable just a few short years ago, but in the intervening time the world has watched Israel carry out a horrifying genocide in Gaza using American bombs and tax dollars.

All of this amounts to a White House and a Republican Party that are profoundly out of step with the average voters. With the midterm elections right around the corner, this war will prove to be a weight around their necks that they cannot shake.

The blue wave is coming.
