@BobGunzy@LDBell8675309@DanAllred1 Some fields through Monroe county look very similar. Plus ~13 inches of rain since June 1 near Russell. Mother Nature giving SC IA all of the challenges that it can think of thus far.
June has been a tale of rainfall extremes across #Iowa. Map shows our estimates through this morning. Highest amounts fell in Lucas/Monroe Counties. A @CoCoRaHS observer in the Russell area reported 13.00 inches. Meanwhile, portions of NW IA received less than 1/2 inch. #iawx
Some significant storm damage occurred through Lucas, Mahaska, Marion, and Monroe county (likely others as well) this week with hail, wind, and flooding all occurring. Check out https://t.co/WwdYZjnQeR for more information about assessing damage following the storms. #ISUCrops
Storms rolled across the state and with them came heavy rain, hail, and wind. Check out this resource for helping to access the damage: https://t.co/Ntc2tXYCDt. #ISUCrops#hail#wind#flooding

"Foliar symptoms alone are not enough to diagnose [sudden death syndrome]. It is important to inspect plants closely, dig and inspect roots, and split soybean stems open.
After splitting stems, the pith of a plant infected with SDS will be white even if roots are severely rotted...
SDS management strategies include planting soybean varieties with SDS resistance, managing SCN, using effective fungicide seed treatments, improving soil drainage in fields with recurring SDS, rotating crops, avoiding or reducing soil compaction, and maintaining proper pH and fertility levels. Growers must plan on implementing an integrated SDS management strategy, because a single management tactic alone is not likely to adequately control the disease."

Out here checking rootworm traps and think I took a wrong turn into the Oompa Loompa factory… wait that’s just the southern rust popping up across south central Iowa! 😅 @ashleyn_dean@alisonrISU
Bit of a wet morning that turned into a beautiful afternoon for the Hay Day at McNay. Smaller but mighty crowd with tons of great interaction and conversations. Thanks to @Tunweeds for presenting during lunch! @ISUCropNews
@JansenStuart Very valid points. It’s tough planning haying extension events as when it works good for us is when it also works good for producers. And we certainly don’t want you all to skip out on good haying weather! Thank you for the feedback.
