🎉 NEW YEARS THREAD: 2018 was such an incredibly transformative year for students everywhere.
We showed the world what it means to organize for change.
Let's take a look back at what we did.
Today we mourn 26 lives ripped away too early. Six years ago, Sandy Hook Elementary School was devastated, and the community forever changed. It is a pain we know all too well. Newtown, then and always, we stand with you.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting, unofficial results show the Tax Ratification Election passed with 58 percent of the vote. The bond proposition passed with 61 percent. More: https://t.co/SEXkxsJbuf
Get out and vote y’all! #ElectionDay
So much is at stake today — let’s have a say in our future. Polls are open until 7pm & remember to bring a government photo ID to your polling location! #IVoted

It’s #NationalVoterRegistrationDay! Although Texas doesn’t have online voter registration, it’s a great day to check your registration status at https://t.co/A2qQhimfVv and find a voter registrar who can help you #RegisterToVote!
We’re happy to see Frisco Mayor @JeffCheney has already signed @AMarch4OurLives’ #MayorsForOurLives pledge. We’re eager to hear his plans for Frisco’s community-wide day of action on National Voter Registration Day, September 25th.
DFW Students Demand Action will be hosting a vigil this Saturday, 09/01, from 6:30-7:30pm at Preston Hollow Park in Dallas in remembrance of the victims of the recent Madden 19 shooting in Florida. Please contact @DFW_SDA for more information. Signup: https://t.co/F5vEMzkwvi
In Texas, a photo ID is required to vote. Closing 87 DMV offices - four of which are in the DFW area - would disenfranchise potential voters and be a state-wide act of voter suppression. #txlege https://t.co/lRLFdgqz4l
#VotingMatters. And, this generation knows it’s important now more than ever. Following the #Parkland school shooting, student activist group @FriscoSAU organized a school walkout to register their classmates to vote. Their next stop? Midterms. https://t.co/WdXXmQwnQW
We hope everyone had a great first day of school! We're excited to hit the ground running this year, and get as many Frisco ISD students involved as possible!

Went to Pennridge Highschool today where the administration gave out 225 detentions to kids who participated in the first national walk out. When they sat in detention they staged another protest holding a vigil for the 17 lost in parkland and spoke out on gun violence.
Kudos to students taking this on themselves, but, it’s not on them. The state can help by comprehensively educating school officials and districts can help by including registration opportunities at mandatory events, so that students know options. #TXed

People who pretend that being lukewarm in times of great injustice is somehow the dignified route are deceiving themselves. Being less emotionally invested because you’re less impacted is a privilege, not skill.
