#COP28#ClimateChange is about consumption of very richest people in our global society.
50% of global emissions are emitted by just 10% of the population.
90% of global emissions by 50% of the population.
We need climate justice to save our planet. The rich need to step up
1. Global warming will continue until we reach net-zero.
2. The climate consequences will keep getting worse until we reach net-zero.
3. After reaching net-zero we will have to live and suffer in a warmer world for generations.
Do we act now or delay further?
@LeonSimons8 Totally agree, Leon! We need broad understanding. My point was more about segmenting and strategy: who exactly needs to understand and do what, and how do you make it stick? For a broad audience, @futerra has some fantastic resources, check this one out: https://t.co/R5CmTdZxwJ
Most people STILL don’t know what peril they are in. This will be the coolest summer for the rest of your life, and that shouldn’t be just a meme - it should be actually terrifying. The ONLY path out of this heat nightmare is to end fossil fuels ASAP
"Dear friends, scientifically, this is not a #ClimateCrisis. We are now facing something deeper. Mass extinction. Air pollution. Undermining ecosystem functions. Really putting humanity’s future at risk. This is a #PlanetaryCrisis."
— Professor @jrockstrom#ActOnClimate
@LeonSimons8 More questions than answers indeed, I'm afraid! So appreciate your efforts and this question you ask yourself. I remember an eye-opening, in-person, simple explanation from you on this topic which stuck with me. In words like: pollution from ships create clouds -> reduce warming.
A global transition WILL NOT HAPPEN at current levels of finance.
This week's summit in Paris is a critical moment to change course for people, nature and climate.
6 major shifts are needed in the financial system.
Let's visualize how to turn billions into trillions🧵
With the CCTV HQ, Koolhaas certainly put into practice something he once wrote in a book called S,M,L,XL.
"I like thinking big. I always have. To me it's very simple: if you're going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big."
Our world is fading from green to grey. The Biodiversity Stripes show a 69% decline in over 5,000 species of mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles since 1970. #BiodiversityDay
“We will reach 1.5°C in the first half of the next decade. The real question is whether we will reduce our emissions and see it come down. Or whether we with a blast through 1.5°C and keep going.” via @IPCC_CH press conference on the #AR6 Synthesis Report.
This image from today's IPCC synthesis report is brutal. The existing policy trajectory represents a profound failure of our governments, and of our international political system. We need much more aggressive mitigation and much stronger international cooperation.
Nieuwe column geschreven, over Het Einde Aan De Oplossingen. Want elk probleem dat we nu hebben, is het resultaat van een oplossing die we eerder hebben bedacht, aldus @Besselink. Benieuwd naar jullie gedachten:
