Soldier is trending because today Soldiers bullied Nyesom Wike from demolishing a property owned by a former Army Chief. And Nigerians are loving it, since the Military General Sarham incident, 2019.

“Shut up, you are mad. you are a fool. Do you know who I am.” A frustrated humbled Wike hurled at a 3-Star General on orders to keep him and his entourage out of a property.

Wike claims the owner of the property lacks proper documentation. Therefore construction mustn’t happen on the site.

Meanwhile, the Soldier said, the property has full documentation, and Wike should follow proper procedures. Because they’ve submitted all the paperwork to FCTA.

Wike somehow claimed the soldiers wanted to kill them. After making some powerful phone calls, the soldiers stood on Orders.

Himself, his police escorts, DSS and aides became violent. One overzealous police officer aggressively shoved a soldier, who somehow still remained composed.

Then, Wike started preaching against abuse of power, impunity and integrity.

One of his aides asked the General to “shut up when Oga is talking.” Forgetting Wike is but a mere civilian, not a GCFR or military officer.

A junior officer joined Wike in hurling insults at the 3-star general, who instantly rebuked him, reminding him he is far above him. So he shouldn’t be talking while he spoke.

Eventually, Wike swore they won’t work on the site. The General, again advised him to go through proper channels. And it only angered Wike the more.

This is the second time a soldier is standing firm against Wike. — remember General Sahram?

Wike claims Gen. Sahram ordered him be shot. Denying the allegation, The Gen. Jibril Sarham said, in 2019, Wike offered him billions to rig the general elections in Rivers, but he stood on integrity. But since then, became Wike’s enemy.

Nigerians are saying, Wike finally got a dose of his own medicine and he couldn’t take it. While praises are piling for the 3-star general for maintaining his composure throughout the drama.

TRIBUTE TO A MENTOR

I mourn the departure of President Muhammadu Buhari. He was a leader who stood up for our country in war and peace. He made his contributions to our country’s progress as a military officer, head of state, and elected president.

President Buhari demonstrated remarkable resilience, recovering from his ouster as military head of state in 1985 to emerge as an elected president in 2015. He was rather taciturn but had a sense of humour. He exuded a charm that connected him to ordinary people who cherished him as a symbol of integrity, a man who could be trusted to stand by the people.

Despite disappointment in three previous presidential elections, he summoned the vision and energy to construct a new coalition that birthed the APC in 2013. He ultimately recorded a first in Nigerian history, defeating an incumbent president in 2015. After two terms as president, he also successfully handed over power to an elected successor. In retirement, he retained his pull, often playing gracious host to a variety of prominent persons.

I had the privilege of working with him in the CPC. He asked me to lead the CPC Renewal Committee after the 2011 elections. Our committee recommended the imperative of the CPC merging with the ACN and other parties in time for the 2015 elections.

President Buhari was my political mentor. He nudged me to contest for the governorship of Kaduna State, encouraged me by attending the flag-off of my campaign in November 2014, and stood by me to victory. I am profoundly grateful for his support during my tenure as governor and for the remarkable access he afforded me, even during rare moments of disagreement on policy matters.

May Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus and comfort his family, especially his wife Hajiya Aisha Buhari and his children, who have been such a formidable support.

I join my brothers and sisters to strongly protest the use of the Hijab (Niqab) in an upcoming Nigerian movie produced by one Ms. Bolanle Ayo. The Hijab is an outfit deeply attributed to Muslim women that symbolizes respect, modesty, and religious devotion. And, I believe it should not be used as a mere costume in a movie, especially when the scenes it portrays are clearly associated with negative moral vices.

Using the Hijab in such scenes is a profound disrespect to our mothers, sisters, and daughters. This garment is a symbol of respect, and portraying it in a manner that suggests otherwise is offensive to those who wear it for religious purposes.

The producers of this movie should have considered alternative costumes, such as balaclavas or masks, for such scenes. For us, the Hijab (Niqab) is not worn by our women to hide their identity to commit crimes but to respect, follow, and abide by the teachings of our religion.

I join well-meaning Nigerians in calling on the producers of this movie to respect our religion and remove all the scenes where the Hijab is portrayed negatively. We also urge the National Film and Video Censors Board (@nfvcbng) to censor these hurtful scenes to protect the dignity of those who wear the Hijab.

We hope that our concerns will be addressed promptly and appropriately.
