At the Council on Foreign Relations @CFR_org in New York, I presented Somaliland’s case and its 35-year record of peace, democracy and effective governance.
Recognition is Somaliland’s historical and legal right and a strategic investment in security, trade and stability across the Horn of Africa.
Yesterday evening at the National Museum in Hargeisa, Somaliland, the UAE flag was proudly displayed with a message of thanks to the UAE government.
Thank you to the people and leadership of Somaliland ❤️ 🇦🇪
Somaliland used the Davos forum to push economic diplomacy as a pathway to global recognition. President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi highlighted Berbera Port and the region’s strategic location in talks with major international business figures.
At Davos, Somaliland’s president promoted the country as stable, open for business, and strategically located, highlighting investment opportunities around Berbera Port and meeting Eric Trump to pitch business deals.

The Somaliland–Israel engagement in Davos is more than symbolic. Davos is where diplomatic realignments begin. The presence of global figures, including Eric Trump, signals the seriousness of this moment—often the kind that precedes larger diplomatic breakthroughs.
Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro) met the President of Israel in Davos during the World Economic Forum to discuss bilateral cooperation.

Somalia’s daydreaming changes nothing. Berbera is the birthplace of our President, and the UAE is a trusted friend of Somaliland. They invested in Berbera when others doubted us—today, everyone is talking about Berbera. We are a nation of principles, and we stand by our friends. The UAE is here to stay, no matter what a weak administration in Mogadishu says. #SomalilandRecognition
BREAKING :#Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud delivered a televised address accusing Israel of “military expansionism” in the Horn of Africa, land-grabbing, genocide, and the displacement of Palestinians—calling @IsraeliPM Benjamin @netanyahu a “wanted fugitive.”
Hassan questioned the right of the Jewish state to exist at all, claiming the land belongs to “#Palestine,” and portrayed Israel as a “genocidal state,” a deliberate and calculated attempt to delegitimise it.
The speech came hours before a delegation of the Communist Party of China arrived in Mogadishu.
Hassan claimed Somalia, with Arab states and Turkey, will “drive Israel out of the HoA.”
Both Presidents Hassan Sh. Mohamud and Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo have publicly acknowledged and confessed crimes committed by the Somali government in their own words. They also publicly acknowledged and that is a withness to the letter witten by Israel in 1990.
The U.S. statement at the UN SC clearly demonstrated strong diplomatic support for Somaliland, effectively dismissing Somalia’s claims by refusing to engage with them. The U.S. also described the meeting as unnecessary, reaffirming that Israel has the sovereign right.
Many Muslim countries maintain political and trade relations with Israel, some worth billions of dollars.
International relations are driven by national interest and pragmatism.
In that context, it’s reasonable to ask: Why not Somaliland?
"We have relations with the Taiwanese, and it’s in Somaliland’s interest to build this relationship. We don’t see it as harming Chinese interests," @AmbMohamedHagi, advisor to the President of Somaliland joins #MiddleEastNow with @Laura_L_Cellier
A current general in the Somalia military and former Al-Shabaab leader has proclaimed war against Israel, stating that he will conquer Tel Aviv.
קצין בדרגת גנרל בצבא סומליה ומנהיג לשעבר בארגון א-שבאב הכריז מלחמה על ישראל, והצהיר כי יכבוש את תל אב

A Somalia police colonel publicly called for the slaughter of Jews and #Israelis, openly chanting genocidal slogans. He is a former member of Al-Shabaab, repeating the same extremist rhetoric he once used as a jihadist. The incitement took place near Somalia’s presidential palace, Villa #Somalia, raising serious questions about extremism, accountability, and security within state institutions.
As a citizen of the Republic of Somaliland, I extend my sincere gratitude to His Excellency Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Government of the State of Israel for the historic recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign and independent nation.
To the people of Somaliland:
Today marks a proud and historic milestone in our long journey for international recognition. It reflects our resilience, unity, and commitment to peace.
This declaration is in the spirit of the Abraham Accords, signed at the initiative of President Trump.
Prime Minister Netanyahu congratulated the President of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdallah, and praised his leadership and commitment to promoting stability and peace.
