We've looked at Rep. Sprunger and her $9 million contract with MDT.
This time we have Senator Ellsworth attempting to pay his friend.
What is going on with Montana politics? We're just following the money.

MEIC has blocked gas, nuclear, and coal in Montana. Their solution? Renewables.
The DOE says that plan could leave Americans without power 34 days a year.
Great backup plan. ๐

4/THE LOOP
Montana taxpayers fund the state budget. The state budget funds MDT. MDT pays Big Sky Public Relations $9 million. Big Sky PR supplies staff to Sprunger's campaign. Sprunger wins re-election. Sprunger returns and carries MDT related legislation.
The contract keeps running. Your tax dollars are the fuel. You can decide what to call it.

3/THE CAMPAIGN
In September 2024, Big Sky Public Relations employees began showing up in Sprunger's campaign finance filings. COPP records show Big Sky PR staff logging campaign hours at $25 per hour, reported as in-kind contributions. In-kind contributions are legal and common, but this isn't a friend printing yard signs.
This is a company holding a $9 million state contract directing its staff toward re-electing its own CEO. Sprunger won re-election. She returned to the House Transportation Committee.
$273 million.
That's an all time record amount of outside money flooding into Montana's 2024 U.S. Senate races.
In 2006, it was $2 million. Then the monumental Supreme Court decision, Citizens United, opened the floodgates, and the number exploded: $48Mโฆ $69Mโฆ and now a 137x increase that works out to a record $487 for every registered voter in Montana.
Shouldn't Montana voters be the ones deciding what's best for Montana? Instead, corporate interests, DC lobbyists, Silicon Valley, and billionaires from who knows where are having their way. And most of that money is undisclosed. They don't even have to tell you they're influencing our government.
The question isn't left or right. It's: whose state is this?

๐จ Breaking | Montana Property Tax Cap Push
Sen. Wylie Galt (R-Martinsdale) just launched a constitutional initiative to cap local property tax increases at 2% per year in Montana.
Key details:
โ Applies to all property classes (residential, commercial, ag, timber)
โ School levies are excluded โ voters can still pass mill levies
โ Baseline is set at 2024 or 2025, whichever is lower
For context: Montana county property taxes grew at an average of 6.19% per year between 2001 and 2022.
To make the November ballot, the initiative needs 60,000+ signatures after clearing the AG's office.
Similar caps exist in California (Prop 13), Colorado (TABOR), and Florida.
Worth watching closely ๐
