If I inherit $100k and I loan it to you to use, you would expect me to charge interest, right? The situation is almost the same in that I inherited a house that I "loaned" (leased) to you and charged you "rent" (interest).
Does that make sense?
In the real world, not all money is "earned" by sweat. Some is "earned" by providing a service or the use of an owned product.

@skumWgmi If your parents left (or gave) you $100k which you used to buy a truck, and charge people money for... lets say... hauling things, would the money you earn be any more legitimate than the money earned by a landlord who inherited the building that they are leasing out?
