Check out our new paper on #AMOC, just freshly released on @ScienceAdvances! Wondering which freshwater release region is the key and how the climate #mean and #extremes change? Here are some hints…
New study revisits climate impacts of an #AMOC slowdown 🌍🌊. Freshwater hosing experiments reveal the Irminger Basin as the most sensitive site, causing the largest AMOC weakening. @MaQiyun@paleo_dyn

🌊 Today in @Nature: Is the AMOC on the brink of collapse?
Unlikely before 2100—but the risks are real 🚨
We find Southern Ocean winds keep this vital ocean “heat engine” running, even under extreme #climatechange. But the Pacific holds a surprise…
Let’s explore 🧵👇
Among all sources of potential changes in freshwater input into the North Atlantic region, a study finds those affecting inputs into the Irminger Sea Basin are likely to have the greatest impact on the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (#AMOC). https://t.co/USFF8zJxPD
Modelling study published today @ScienceAdvances confirms that #AMOC is particularly sensitive to shifts in the Irminger Sea, where freshwater is slowing the formation of bottom currents. Read my write-up @livescience with help from lead author @MaQiyun

How the development of a potential #ElNiño might influence the summer temperature in #Europe? For the past strong El Niños the #temperature in Europe had a rather chaotic response. 2015 might be a good analog for what is happening currently, with temp>40°C over #southern Europe.
Many thanks to the organizers of this great Blocking workshop. I've learnt a lot during these 3 days. Also great to see many authors' faces (virtually😉) #BWS2021#WavesToWeather
Ps. Happy to find my face in this photo🤣
Finally, I defended my PhD thesis. Thank you all for attending and supports through these years. Thank you my supervisors @chlefHH and Johanna Baehr. And thank you @ValerioLembo for the collaboration and helps😃. Thank all my colleagues for their mental and physical supports😎
Congratulations to Qiyun Ma, who graduated with a #PhD today! 🎉He successfully defended his thesis about maintenance mechanisms and energetics of extreme events @unihh. All the best for you future career! @SICSSUHH
Indeed, a great "tiny" session with a lot of interesting discussions in the breakout chats. Thanks to the audience and the authors for making it possible! #vEGU21
Our #vEGU21 session on Energy and Moisture cycles and their interactions with large-scale atmospheric-oceanic circulation is starting in about 1 hour. See you there with a number of exciting PICOs!

In a recent paper with @MaQiyun (UHH) and @chlefHH (IBS), we investigated the evolution of the Lorenz Energy Cycle and its components in a set of Reanalysis over the 20th Century /1 https://t.co/7VvVxKT1UT
