Moro people are the indigenous Muslim inhabitants of southern Philippines, inhabiting primarily the Sulu Archipelago and parts of Mindanao. The women are wearing traditional clothing of the era, including sarong-like garments and tabungaw or similar cone-shaped hats.

This image was taken during a period when the Moro people resisted American colonization following the Spanish-American War.

Complete Map of the Yamnaya Culture at its territorial peak in 2900bc

The Yamnaya Culture needs little introduction. This Culture is the archaeological manifestation of the Proto-Indo-Europeans on the Steppe.

It and its brother the Corded Ware Culture are the Ethnolinguistic Ancestors of all of the Indo European Languages still spoken today, and 3.4 billion Humans (Almost half of the Global Population!) speak Languages derived from their Tongue.

Knife grinders in France circa 1900. They worked lying down to save their backs and had dogs sit on their legs for warmth.

This photograph, taken in France around 1900, captures a group of knife grinders, known locally as émouleurs, laboring in one of the most physically demanding and dangerous trades of the industrial era. These men sharpened blades for knives, scissors, and tools using large, foot-powered grinding wheels. To protect their spines from the constant strain of leaning over, they worked lying flat on wooden planks, their faces just inches from rapidly spinning stones.

The workshop environment was harsh and often cold, particularly in the damp cellars where many grinders toiled. To combat the chill, workers brought their dogs to lie across their legs, a small comfort that offered both warmth and companionship during long hours of grinding steel. The practice became a hallmark of the trade — a quiet symbol of the bond between laborers and their animals amid unforgiving conditions.

Knife grinding was also perilous. Fine metal dust filled the air, leading to a lung disease known as “grinder’s rot.” Many workers developed chronic respiratory problems or died young due to constant exposure. Despite the health risks, the craft persisted well into the early 20th century before industrial mechanization and modern safety standards rendered the trade obsolete.

In the city of Thiers, France’s knife-making capital since the 14th century, knife grinders were so integral to local identity that entire neighborhoods were built around their workshops. Today, Thiers still honors their legacy through museums and traditional blade-making festivals.

It is often included with the Trzciniec Culture, although its exact origins are still unclear. It is likely derived from the Corded Ware Culture.

The Matt-Painted Pottery of Northern Greece, Southern Albania and Macedonia. Existing from 1600-1100bc, this Pottery is likely representative of the Phrygians/Bryges before their Migration to Anatolia. Pottery resembling Matt-Pain is also found in later Anatolian Phrygia.
