A full military incursion into Rafah will plunge the crisis into unprecedented levels of humanitarian need. A ceasefire is urgently needed for the sake of humanity. #Gaza
🛑 #Gaza: a war on #children, their education and their futures.
Since the war began, according to @UNICEF and others:
- 13,750 children are reported killed
- 17,000 children are unaccompanied or seperated
- Every day, 10 children lose their legs.
- Dozens of children have died due to malnutirion & dehydration.
- More than 50 schools are completely destroyed, among them several @UNRWA schools.
- Every child in Gaza needs mental health and psyhcological support.
- Every child has been deprived from #educaiton for nearly 6️⃣ months now.
Meanwhile, Israel continues with its calls & pressures to dismantle UNRWA, the largest humanitarian & development organisation in Gaza.
It is the main provider of primary & pre-secondary education.
More than 300,000 girls & boys attended our schools before the war.
Dismantling UNRWA -in the absence of a functioning administration- also means preventing children from education.
This cannot continue.
The children of Gaza & the region deserve better.
Al-Shifa hospital in #Gaza this morning, following the end of the latest Israeli siege.
I repeat: hospitals must be respected and protected; they must not be used as battlefields.
Attacks on health care and the militarisation of hospitals in #Gaza are unacceptable. Health facilities and health workers must be protected at all times to ensure unhindered access to care for all people-in-need. Before and after 👇.
We need peace now.
In countries going through emergencies —such as conflict, climate disasters and hunger—, women and girls often eat last, and sacrifice their meals first.
On #InternationalWomensDay, see how @WFP works to ensure that no woman or girl goes to bed hungry: https://t.co/bP3bmMLNgO
not happy womens day till the women in Gaza, Congo, Sudan, Balochistan, Kashmir, Haiti can live in liberty with safety, security, dignity & joy. they deserve to be free of colonisation & unending violence. they deserve to be able to care for & nourish their children in peace
“For many, institutions' silence and their role in silencing in the face of a raging, manufactured public health crisis in Gaza reveals their level of commitment to challenging racial stereotyping and dehumanisation better than statements they have made.” https://t.co/02gfdZfquM
Too many innocent Palestinian & Israeli lives have been lost, starting much before Oct 7.
Healthcare professionals & academics must be supported, not silenced, when advocating for preservation of life.
This is core to our role.
