Wonderful evening last night with our Manx Farmland Birds Officer @Robert_K_Fisher dazzling for Woodcock and Skylark on a Manx farm. Reinforced the value of unsprayed winter stubbles as a winter habitat for farmland birds #agrienvironment#manxnature 🐦🇮🇲🌱
🪶🚨TREE SPARROW UPDATE!🚨🪶
Last week we held a ringing session in an unharvested sunflower field… the results blew us away! We ringed 69 birds of which the highlights were 14 #TreeSparrow & 10 #ReedBunting. These are the first Tree Sparrow ringed on #IOM 🇮🇲 in a decade! @_BTO
It’s a foul day on the #IsleofMan, so I hope these stunning photos of #TreeSparrows taken yesterday by @manxmannin at one of our Tree Sparrow Recovery Project supplementary feeding sites will cheer up your day. You can see they are enjoying the white millet from @Vinehousefarm👌
Yesterday visited a site which shows the importance of agriculture in conservation; some of the island's last Tree Sparrows, among hundreds of birds feeding in three fields. Thanks to @ManxAgriEnviro @Robert_K_Fisher#isleofman#birding#TreeSparrow
A great nocturnal survey this evening. One #woodcock caught out of three seen along with Hedgehogs, Mice, a roosting Blackbird and the European Eels in the dub. #manxnature@_BTO
And we are live! The first #MOTUS station on the western seaboard of the British Isles @CalfObs
Many thanks to Curraghs Wildlife Park Conservation Fund for financing the station, Andrew & Jenny Moore, @manxheritage, @MichaelHowland1 & @mikeprior_ for their assistance in set up.
Last night I was surveying farmland birds in a stubble field on the #IsleofMan 🇮🇲. I ringed 18 #Skylark out of 25 seen & 1 #JackSnipe out of 4 seen. These habitats are fantastic areas for birds to feed and roost throughout the winter months. Ringed under @_BTO & @iomdefa licence.
Fancy leading Manx BirdLife and championing wild bird conservation in the Isle of Man?
Closing date for applications Friday 5th May. Find out more at https://t.co/pEExMZfCSt
NEWS: People urged to be responsible around Point of Ayre nesting birds.
Public asked not to enter fenced-off areas and keep dogs on leads. #iom#news#ManxRadio https://t.co/pAi8RFutVe
We now have eggs! If you are planning to visit @CalfObs please keep to the marked pathways and avoid entering any of the nesting colonies. Please also use the yellow disinfectant mats at each harbour to sanitise footwear and assist in our efforts to limit the threat of avian flu.
A raft of rafts!
Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who helped on Sunday to prepare the tern rafts for launching.
We still need to locate at least four barrels for the final raft. Do know anywhere on the Island that could provide these? Thanks for any leads you can give us!
Fantastic shallow scrapes created by a farmer and @ManxAgriEnviro has resulted in waders including #Snipe feeding through the night over the winter months. Last night’s treats were quite late records for #Woodcock & #JackSnipe. Ringed under licence through the @_BTO & @iomdefa.
