As always, a delight working with @sandervanbree on this project! Trying to improve the notoriously low classifier performance when decoding reactivated memories from EEG (with little success unfortunately).
Great experience with review/publishing process at @ImagingNeurosci!
During my PhD, I noticed it can be challenging to decode long-term memory (LTM) contents from EEG activity. We were struck by research showing that transient visual "pings" can boost working memory classification.
So, we evaluated this technique for LTM:

New paper in Nature Communications with @mariam_s_aly & @ChrisBaldassano !
How is temporal structure represented in the brain to guide predictions? We found graded and hierarchical reps of both past and future states across the brain!

Why do some memories fade in seconds, while others stay with us for life? Working Memory (WM) holds info for just moments, but certain bits manage to stick around and make it into Long-Term Memory (LTM). In our new ⚡️preprint⚡️, we examined what helps these memories stick. 1/
I will be recruiting 💫two PhD students💫 for my new lab! (computational learning & memory applied to individual & interactive behavior, https://t.co/EXo6x5fI8Z).
Feel free to e-mail if interested and catch me at SfN! (poster 06 at 1 PM on Wed 10/09)
Ahoy Psych and CogNeuro community! We have openings for PhD and Postdocs. Are you interested in the impact of semantic congruity in (visual) cognition? Find more about my new ERC project and the positions at: https://t.co/SoNbmVxr1W. Spread the word!
Interested in an accessible review of active intentional and intentional forgetting in the laboratory and everyday life? Check our new paper now out in Nature Reviews Psychology!
What an amazing day at #Explorathon24@ernscot@UofGPE celebrating 100 Years Anniversary of EEG! We will be at @UofGARC again tomorrow (Sunday 22/09) 12-3pm, come see your brain waves, listen to sonified EEG and try out some neurofeedback
With @CCNi_UofG@Neurotech_UofG
Hugely excited that this work with @martin_hebart and @Chris_I_Baker is now out in @NatureHumBehav !!!
By moving from a category-focused to a behaviour-focused model, we identified behaviourally relevant object information throughout visual cortex.

I put some introductory #EEG / #MEG videos together, based on our introduction to #neuroimaging at the @mrccbu : https://t.co/f9VfysbnKD. They should cover the most common aspects of EEG/MEG analysis, including pre-processing, source estimation and functional connectivity.
The Dynamic Memory Lab (me) is recruiting a postdoc for @DeptofDefense funded project at the intersection of attention, memory, event cognition, and navigation (my collaborators Joy Geng and Andy Yonelinas are also looking) Thanks!
1/13 Heavily updated preprint! https://t.co/3qk9HINGuB
We show that the contextual information encoded in Large Language Models (LLMs) is beneficial for modelling the complex visual information extracted by the brain from natural scenes. 🧵
conference travel, seeing good science friends, talking into the wee hours about uber-nerdy things always re-invigorates me. this is how we should always feel as scientists, but it's so easy to settle into a routine & get bogged down in minutae. feeling energized to write, think.
We are hiring 2 RAs in the AML (now at University of Oregon) with an anticipated start date of late summer/early fall. I promise it will be a fun place to study motivation, affect, and memory!
Find more info about the position in the ad below, and a link to apply in the thread.
There are *2* exciting, fully funded PostDoc positions with Edwin Robertson and @GregorThut, applying techniques such as TMS and EEG to the topic of memory leaks, and generalization.
