When Niels Bohr fled Nazi-occupied Denmark in a fishing boat to Sweden, and then in a high-altitude plane to England, he clutched what he thought was a precious vial of heavy water used to moderate nuclear reactions. In his haste, however, he had brought a bottle of beer instead.
Doctoral candidate Matthew Durbin received a graduate scholarship from the Nuclear & Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS), a technical society within @IEEEorg! Read more about the scholarship and Durbin’s research: https://t.co/yODb2AqGNe

Came across a letter from Pauli to Meitner and Geiger in which he proposes what was to become the neutrino. That’s cool enough, but what I most appreciate is his addressing them as “Radioactive ladies and gentleman” and “dear radioactives.” Why can’t we be this cool anymore?
Bonus proposition from the panel: on scales of who people trust, those perceived as trying to sell something (e.g car salesmen) are trusted least. Nothing prescriptive advised but food for thought in advocating for nuclear.
A nice UK-hosted side panel at IAEA GC this morning- big point for me is looking beyond just electricity (less than 30% of gg emissions in US and UK!) and potential value of H. I tend to think of H production as waiting for Gen IV but not the case. I need to read more on that.
FIRST EVER. @NuScale_Power’s SMR design approval from @NRCgov marks a MAJOR milestone for the US nuclear industry. We are closer to bringing these innovative SMR designs and other advanced technologies to market sooner. This move demonstrates our global leadership in this arena.
Thinking about the importance of nuclear energy and have an urge to post an old poster on the internet... From the @ProjectDrawdown conference @penn_state about a year ago: definitely a dense poster, but zooming works- lots to be excited about with advanced nuclear!
A little late because I’m not as active on social media as I’d like to be... but to add to the chorus: BlackLivesMatter #injusticeanywhereisathreattojusticeeverywhere. A simple source with multiple avenues to help that I found useful: https://t.co/3c1LNCzlz8
Jean Paul Allain is using advancements in nanotechnology and materials science to improve plasma-facing materials; this research could lead to materials that self-heal for use in fusion devices @Penn_State#EarlyCareer https://t.co/VEE2wzJ5NA
Covid19 can’t stop a quality INMM meeting/election @mdog3 .. questions asked: does Covid help or hurt nonpro, what would have to happen for a nuclear-related event to reach the consequence level of Covid? Also admiring the growth of certain members facial hair. #hydrationiskey
@MicahFolsom I feel it! Two weeks away from assembling my imager and basically telling everyone that no one else is allowed in the lab or anywhere near it
