New in @ScienceMagazine our work "Grain boundaries are Brownian ratchets"🤩 We dived very deep into grain boundary (GB) kinetics and emerged with refining our understanding of how interfaces in polycrystals migrate and can be controlled #ScienceResearch

To demonstrate this, we employed fully classical (molecular dynamics) and diffusive-timescale (phase field crystal - example below) atomistic simulations and interpreted the results using Markov-chain Monte Carlo. We then obtained confirmation by targeted experiments!
I was deeply honored by the nomination as Emerging Leader by the #MSMSE editorial board and now even more with the Award! Thanks for considering our work and in particular for appreciating the connections between #PFC and #Gradient#Elasticity!
Please join us in congratulating @MarcoSave - the winner of the MSMSE 2023 Emerging Leaders Award 🎉This award is in recognition of Marco's outstanding work on relating to gradient elasticity in Swift–Hohenberg and phase-field crystal models. Learn more👉 https://t.co/tZWPzlQVsw
Our results are relevant to #nonequilibrium#physics and the interpretation of #optimal strategies of #evasion and #foraging in biological contexts! Check out the findings and the discussions in the paper! (code & data available on #zenodo)
It's a true honor to have been selected for the Richard von Mises Prize '24, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to present my research to the entire #GAMM community! It has been great!
In view of our long-lasting support for PlanS and collaboration with @cOAlitionS_OA, we would like to ask you to fill this #survey in order to collect data to improve the global publishing landscape aiming at a more sustainable, equitable and healthy publishing ecosystem.
This year the 11th Multiscale Materials Modeling (MMM) conference is in Prague 🤩 (CZ), Sept. 22-27! Join us at Symposium (I.) on "#Multiscale and #coarse-#grained#models of #surfaces and #interfaces" (https://t.co/B99uyInXNd - submission deadline 15.03). It will be great!
@MicroLuca Nice! And according to this pic we should then keep on talking :). If everything goes well, we should stop by to Olso this spring/summer too!
Heading back from @uni_muenster after visiting the #CeNoS and the Institute of Theoretical Physics. Thanks for having me - what a place to study and discuss #pattern#formation!
3/3 More details in the published version (arXiv preprint available): https://t.co/suf0QcCXPL . Kudos to the amazing work by Caihao Qiu and the great collaboration with Jian Han and David Srolovitz. And thanks to @dfg_public for funding! @TUDresden_DE@dcmsdresden@DCIMdresden
1/3 Our latest #research on fundamental mechanisms for #polycrystals (like most inorganic solids🪨) has been published in @PNASNews. We've uncovered that grain rotation in these materials follows from #disconnection flow during interface migration✨
2/3 We devised a #continuum model for (multi-mode) interface disconnections (steps with dislocation character), reproducing atomistic simulation results. We also recast it in a simple phenomenological (Cahn-Taylor) model.
We connected #gradient-#elasticity to the theory of order-disorder phase transition https://t.co/34lwnxR2Ml
This follows from #Swift-#Hohenberg and #phase-#field#crystal models and completes the analysis of the elasticity naturally encoded therein! @TUD_Science @dcmsdresden
Paper-mills & garbage papers described in this @Nature piece are very negative consequences of the 'publish or perish' research evaluation system worldwide. @yacadeuro is committed to the importance of reforming/rethinking this system (@CoARAssessment).
