Excited to share that Garage has raised a $13.5M Series A, following our $4.5M seed round last year.
When @MartinHuntJr and I started on this over a year ago, we set out to modernize how fire departments and local governments buy and sell their equipment (from radios to fire trucks).
Today, equipment bought on Garage already serves millions of Americans across all 50 states, helping cities stretch their budgets further.
@AlecStapp Also, the stats are skewed by the reality that many fire departments have consumed the EMS agencies in their cities (ex: FDNY). Many of these firefighters are cross-staffed on ambulances on a daily basis.
@AlecStapp 3) Yes, medical calls make up a lot of fire dept call volume. This is a good thing. Local governments have come to the consensus that paid firefighters (see #2) can be utilized to save lives across fire, rescue, and EMS. This is NOT a reason to hire less firefighters.
A highlight of the YC batch was the founders of @adagyrobotics taking over a corner of the YC office to develop their robot control software.
YC's first office shared space with @tlbtlbtlb's robotics startup, so it was a fun throwback to have robots in our office again.
When startups start taking off, the founders usually can't tell what's changed. It's some combination of all the random things they did to make it take off, but it's hard to say which ones.
