Nutrition researcher and communicator focused on evidence-based interventions to empower women & improve child health. MSPH-RD student at @JohnsHopkinsSPH
I'm five weeks away from graduating with my MSPH degree, and the only thing standing in my way is writing my entire capstone paper (barriers to WIC utilization). I'm hitting burnout harder than I have in two years. Screaming into the twitter void for motivation/advice!!!!!
Do not tell me a $15-an-hour living wage is a "radical" idea. It has 66% support in Democratic districts. It has 59% support in Republican districts. Giving 32 million workers a raise is not a partisan issue—it is common sense. Now let's get it done.
Shocking deficiencies of key minerals found in #Nutrilatt infant formula by our team in Cambodia. The government is taking a strong stance against this company whose negligence will likely cause long-term cognitive deficits in vulnerable children.
Yesterday, the results of an independent analysis of #Nutrilatt#infantformula samples were unveiled at an official press conference hosted by the Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia. It found levels of iron & zinc far below the stated nutrient content. https://t.co/IiLhVnLjda
@Kevin65379773 I am all for buying in bulk & supporting local farmers, but 12 🥚/day? Even under extreme metabolic conditions a 70kg man won’t need more than 140g protein per day (2g/kg)- are you a serious athlete trying to get ALL your protein from eggs & working up to 20/day (7g pro/🥚)? Why?
@mtperrin @MathisenRoger @humanmilknews @hmbana4babies Thank you! I wasn’t aware of these nuances and the evidence showing slower growth- this is exactly the kind of data I was hoping to find with my call out to the twitter world
In a clinical training class, an RD said that NICU babies on #donormilk tend not to grow as well as those on fmla since many donors produce so much milk that the calorie content is diluted. Anyone know of data to support/refute? @MathisenRoger @humanmilknews @hmbana4babies
@TravellingAnnF @MathisenRoger @humanmilknews @hmbana4babies I’d love to check out that paper! This same presenter highlighted the benefits of breastmilk for preemies and fragile neonates- so I was surprised to hear her say that donor human milk might be risky because it’s not as calorically dense. Thought I was missing something
@dn_basuki@ARCH_Nutrition Thank you, Dian! Can’t wait until we publish the full report that you, @jbadham, and the rest of the team have contributed so much for!
I wrote a piece for @ARCH_Nutrition about the emergence of “growing-up” milks on global markets and the health concerns they pose in the diets of infants & young children #WBW2020
#WBW2020 has sparked conversations about environmental and social impacts of infant feeding decisions. Our latest blog post discusses the marketing & potential health impact of “growing-up” milks- a new category of breastmilk substitutes for older kids. https://t.co/jSakGe4LgZ
@1stepsnutrition@DrNShenker It was in the US! In a presentation on neonatal nutrition concerns and medical nutrition therapy. Otherwise lots of comprehensive info was presented on the value of breastfeeding/breastmilk feeding for fragile neonates- so I found this statement really confusing.
"flip-flopping" is the worst synonym imaginable for "having the intellectual courage to admit you were wrong in the face of new evidence and adopt a different position"
CALL YOUR REPS & demand action to protect intl students. I did & learned that Maryland 7th district rep @Mfume4Congress is working on leg to allow temp protective status to students on F1 visas. We have power as constituents- but only if we demand more and better from them.
If you are an US citizen, you have benefited from the academic and financial contributions of intl students in higher ed. If you are not outraged by the recent ICE policy threatening to deport intl students then you are either uninformed or complicit in a xenophobic movement.
CALL TO ACTION: I have created a small document detailing the current situation and what you can do to help. You can find it here. Your international students need you NOW! https://t.co/eyN6Bnsp3H
