At the #LabCoP2025 Annual Meeting in Nairobi, Dr. Marguerite Massinga-Loembe, Senior Consultant for Health Systems Strengthening at @MatahariGlobal, emphasized the need for stronger regulatory collaboration to expedite access to new TB diagnostic tools across Africa.
“Uptake of and access to new TB diagnostic tools in Africa can be delayed by up to nine years. Key enablers to accelerate country-level approval, adoption into policy, and programmatic scale-up include stronger engagement between National TB Programs (NTPs) and national regulators (NRAs), and the harmonization of continental regulatory processes for IVDs and medical devices.”
Her insights reinforced the importance of coordinated regulatory systems and cross-sector collaboration to ensure timely access to innovative diagnostics that can transform TB care across the continent.

The withdrawal of U.S. funding has disrupted TB programmes worldwide, threatening hard-won progress in DRC and Kenya. Communities are losing access to diagnostics, treatment, and care. Read more, directly from the communities we work with: https://t.co/elgwDLqi1d #Tuberculosis
Next generation TB tests return results much quicker and are easier to use. But complex regulatory systems may delay introduction. Our health systems lead Marguerite Massinga Loembé will be presenting the results from our critical path analysis at @TheUnion_TBLH in Copenhagen. 👇🏽
Community-led monitoring data can be critical to ensuring robust and timely PPPR interventions. Whether it is communities reporting unexplained animal deaths or interruptions to HIV medications due to lockdowns - good CLM systems can help better PPPR in the future.

MPOX has been declared a public health emergency of regional concern by @AfricaCDC. According to @EliaBadjo of @CosamedD, Matahari’s local partner in DRC, “Medicines, adequate care, access to testing are lacking in the community."

Our local partners in DRC, @CosamedD, are doing an amazing job tackling major health challenges for people internally displaced by violence. Much more needs to be done. If you’re a global donor wanting to use up funds by end of the year, DRC is where you can do that.

We are proud to be co-leading the work to develop the health workforce compact for the African continent, guided by AU member states. Next steps: regional consultations.
Africa will need between 5.3 and 6.1 million additional health workers by 2030. Yesterday, we kicked off a three-day inception meeting for the Health Workforce Compact at @AfricaCDC Office. Our goal is to design a robust training and development model for health workers and create a policy framework adaptable at the national level, including a national health workforce compact. #HealthWorkforce #AfricaCDC #HealthcareInnovation
🚨Our Health Systems Strengthening lead @MM_Loembe and colleagues write about strengthening readiness against filovirus epidemics, i.e., that evidence supports the use of two licensed vaccines against the Zaire Ebola virus as effective countermeasures.

'We need diagnostics faster' 🧪
Dr @FifaRahman from @MatahariGlobal and member of 100DM Diagnostics subgroup outlines why access to testing is so crucial for pandemic preparedness🦠
In 2024, we are working to see the 100DM Diagnostics framework funded, inc. $80-100m for @FINDdx
As M23 militia inch closer to Goma, our local partners in the Democratic Republic of Congo, @CosamedD, are reporting an increased influx of people who are displaced and fleeing violence, and having multilayered health needs. We remain deeply concerned at the developing situation.
In 2023, Matahari worked on gender-based violence in Eastern Cape, diagnostics access in Madagascar, a market assessment for an NG/CT assay in Brazil and Thailand, among other exciting projects. Get in touch to see how we can support your work in 2024: https://t.co/WreWZR1MJI
@womeninGH Previous collaboration by @MatahariGlobal and @peoplesvaccine on #COVID19 vaccine access found similar notions to this article, i.e. that availability and acceptability contribute to COVID-19 vaccination, rather than hesitancy https://t.co/S6TPNV6ksk
