Our Unite Exec Council meeting moved to Edinburgh this wk so we could support Retired Members & Unite Community members in their fantastic campaign demanding restoration of Winter Fuel Allowance. It wa strongly backed by industrial members too. Really proud of my union! 🚩🚩🚩
Hull today for Unite's day of action on Winter Fuel Payment. Lots of people angry and upset with Labour and Starmer who just wanted to talk. Unjust and cruel
@RachelReevesMP
Our polling found that 72% of voters in Leeds South West & Morley thought the #WinterFuelPayment cuts are unfair. Its more unpopular here than any other Leeds constituency.
Today @unitecomleeds and West Yorkshire retired members visited Morley MP @MarkJSewards to tell him that.
@UniteCommunity Out today with the Energy 4 All Campaign supporting the Winter Fuel Allowance and retired members. Outstanding turn out by Unite Community
Today I'm with @Unite_Community members at the National Industrial Sector Conference in Brighton.
For the first time in @unitetheunion's history, our political fund is now used to mobilise members & communities on issues that matter to them instead of handing it over to #Labour
📢National Grid | PUBLIC OWNERSHIP NOW!
💬 The profits raked in by the @nationalgrid lay bare Britain’s broken #energy system. Energy profiteers like National Grid are extracting cash for overseas’ shareholders through ever more expensive bills.
It is time our energy infrastructure was brought back into #PublicOwnership so that the British people and economy benefit rather than foreign wealth funds.
We were totally overwhelmed by the response in Bramley today. Over 100 messages to @RachelReevesMP about #WinterFuelPayment cut. People are not happy! We will be on @itvcalendar tonight at 6pm.
Energy price hikes put millions of households into fuel poverty & hardship.
Our Unite4Energy For All campaign calls for public ownership and urges government to end fuel poverty through a free allowance of energy to every household to meet basic needs.

Callous utility corporations are blighting the lives of millions. Every household must be guaranteed enough energy to cover essential needs. No one should be forced to choose between heating or eating. #Energy

It's a cruel policy and it needs reversing. @Keir_Starmer needs to admit that he's made a misstep and he needs to reverse the policy.
People voted for change. They need to see change. #WinterFuelPayments@UniteEconomy

I learnt today that in Stroud they have people living in temporary accommodation whose only way to cook is through using a kettle. They cannot use normal food parcels so get special ones made up. Awful isn't it.
Energy bills are set to increase by 10% from today, leaving the average household paying ~65% more for their energy than Winter 2020/21. National Energy Action has calculated that around half of households will be rationing energy use.
You'd think the govt could have seen this coming...
Keir Starmer urged to intervene to help households tackle rising gas and electricity prices, with research showing 7.7m households are likely to struggle to heat homes this winter.

The governments cut to the Winter Fuel Allowance has made the situation desperate for many. Today our members rallied at dozens of locations to bring an end to flagrant profiteering.

On the day energy prices have gone up by 10% we are outside Ecotricity in Stroud campaigning for trade union recognition and #EnergyForAll for all households.
Today was our national day of action sending a strong message to the government to bring energy back in house there’s no reason anyone should have to choose between heating and eating.

On a cold & rainy day in London as energy prices rose by 10% & winter fuel payments were cut for 10 million older people activists from @and_unite @EastLondonUniteCom @FuelPovAction & supported by @UniteLondonEast

Last year alone, private firms reported profits of £45 billion from our country’s domestic energy system. If that money had been kept in the hands of the hardworking public, it could have been used to save each household almost £2,000 on their #energy bills. #PublicOwnership
